A06 HRN-2529 In: 024746 Out: 024837 Sound Bite: Ben Stiller – where did he come up with the idea for a Platoon-like movie Well, it’s just uh, you know I go back probably like to 1987, I was in Empire of the Sun which is the closest thing to a war movie that I’ve been in Around that time they were making Platoon and Hamburger Hill and a lot of friends who were in those movies and uh I auditioned for some of them and just that world was happening, it always seemed fun to me the idea of actors going off and doing this fake boot camps and talking about like it changed their lives, um which I understand it probably did but it’s nothing compared to the real reality of war so that satirizing that aspect of it was always interesting to me, and uh I loved those movies I think that they’re you know it’s a very uniquely American genre and uh something that hadn’t been sort of uh done in a comedic way
