(FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE, THE REPORTER DAVE ANDREWS IS LICENSABLE) VO: GEORGE LAMSON JR. TESTIFYING AT NTSB HEARING PKG: IMAGERY FROM NTSB HEARING, PILOT SOT, SHOT FROM HEARING, FILE FROM GALAXY FLIGHT 203 CRASH SITE, SMOLDERING WRECKAGE, HEARING
LEAD: SCRIPT: (SUGGESTED TRANSCRIPT OF AUDIO) Pkg: two more pilots testify today they experienced the vibration problem on flights in Lockheed Electras. And they traced the problem to the service door and I thought we were over grossed unknowingly. The airplane flew on chart. The approach into the island was normal. And I had told him during the cruise that I changed my mind, and I thought the air start door was opened on the leading edge. We went down the ladder together and checked it and it was open and had been bent upward over the top of the wing. But in that incident, unlike the Galaxy crashed, the pilot increased power and the vibration was reduced and the plane landed without incident. All of the testimony to date supports the speculation that had the Galaxy pilot not reduced power when he felt the vibrations that the crash could have been prevented. And there was more testimony today stating nothing has been found yet that would point to any other serious mechanical or structural problems with the Galaxy plane that might have caused the vibrations in the aircraft.
