NNS-Tiller Shot-KS:Suspect Arrives in Wichita Monday, June 01, 2009 Slug: Tiller Shot-KS Story: Suspect Arrives in Wichita Dateline: Wichita, KS Source: KWCH Network: CBS Embargo: KAKE Producer: MWelch Restriction: Duration: 00:01:24.07 Created On: 06/01/09 03:20:01 Topic: Crime/Police Region: Midwest Format: VO * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * INFORMATION: THIS IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN 4:3 with the Blue rimmed slate. The white Taurus carrying the man accused in the shooting death of Doctor George Tiller arrived at the Sedgwick County Jail in Wichita, Kansas early Monday morning (6/1). Scott Roeder was driven away from the facility in New Century in an unmarked white Ford Taurus with what appeared to be a guard in the back seat. As the car arrived in Wichita the driver and the possible guard were visible in the vehicle but the suspect was unable to be seen. At this time there is only speculation on whether the suspect was leaning out of sight or was delivered to Wichita's City Hall before the Taurus arrived at the jail. Police say Roeder shot and killed Tiller Sunday (5-31) while he was serving as an usher at the Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita. According to investigators, Roeder walked into the church, opened fire and drove off in a light blue Ford Taurus. Tiller became a pivotal figure in the abortion debate for performing abortions after the 21st week at his Kansas women's clinic. It's one of a handful in the nation to do so and has been the focus of numerous demonstrations. This is not the first time Tiller has been targeted. Back in 1993, a protester shot him in both arms. Before that, his clinic was bombed in 1985 . Roeder is expected to be formally charged with murder and aggravated assault this week. The shooting remains under investigation.
