INFORMATION: -THIS IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN 4:3 with the Blue rimmed slate. Many people are in mourning Monday (6-1) after the shooting death of abortion doctor George Tiller. Police say Tiller was shot and killed Sunday (5-31) by Scott Roeder while Tiller was serving as an usher at the Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas. According to investigators, Roeder walked into the church, opened fire and drove off in a light blue Ford Taurus. Tiller became a pivotal figure in the abortion debate for performing abortions after the 21st week at his Kansas women's clinic. It's one of a handful in the nation to do such procedures and has been the focus of numerous demonstrations. This is not the first time Tiller has been targeted. Back in 1993, a protester shot him in both arms. Before that, his clinic was bombed in 1985 . Roeder is expected to be formally charged with murder and aggravated assault as early as Monday (6-1) afternoon. Tiller's attorney Dan Monnat spoke early Monday morning (6-1) about the effects the doctor's death may have on other physicians that may be involved with this type of controversial healthcare. The shooting remains under investigation. SUPERS: Wichita, KS Dan Monnat Attorney for Tiller VIDEO INFO: SOT Monnat -"Despite the fact they 1/8the family 3/8 knew about the bombings, the shooting, the picketing, the protesting...nothing can prepare them for the horror of this." SOT Monnat -"Regardless of the motivation for this senseless act, the act itself will probably discourage other physicians from being involved in this high-risk healthcare." SOT Monnat -"He was a husband of 45 years, a father of four grand--four children, grandpa to ten grandchildren and a compassionate physician to countless women who sought him in some of their most desperate times of need ." ****************************************************************************
