Cutaway of guard ++repeat shot++ STORYLINE A massive manhunt was under way in France on Monday after a gunman on a motorcycle opened fire in front of a Jewish school in the French city of Toulouse in the morning, killing a rabbi, his two young sons and a schoolgirl. French President Nicolas Sarkozy said the national security alert had been raised to its highest level across a swath of southern France surrounding Toulouse following the attack, which he called the worst school shooting in French history. "All they asked was to live, but a madman, a murderer, a barbarian cut them down before they had even reached the age of ten," Sarkozy said of the three children. Outside Ozar Hatorah School well wishers left flowers. Corinne Tordjman's son Alexandre was inside the school at the time of the attack. "They heard the shots, and then parents shouting and crying. And then when he came out he saw the little children on the floor with blood around them," she said. "You just don't believe it," she added. "You think it can't happen.... it can't be reality, not here." Monday's shooting was the third motorcycle-based slaying in the area in a week. Officials say one of the guns used in Monday's attack was also fired in two other deadly motorcycle attacks. The dead and injured in the earlier attacks were paratroopers of North African and Caribbean origin. In all three cases, the attacker came on a motorcycle, apparently alone, and then sped away.
