TVU 21 BETO ROURKE DALLAS TX RALLY MOS ABC UNI 101719 2020 Just before the rally, ABC spoke with several voters about where they stand so far in the election and on the news of day, specifically on Hunter Biden, Sen. Sanders' health and impeachment. Here are the highlights: Tim O'Brien of Flower Mound, TX, supports O'Rourke, but undecided. [19:47:58] "So I like Biden, but trying to trying to get behind some of his Biden-isms [laughs]. It's tough. It's tough to do." Andy Arellano, of Irving, TX, supports O'Rourke, on Sanders' health and age [19:51:22] You know, I like Sanders a lot. It's not something I would say sways my opinion too much. But it is somewhat important in that sense. I don't want a candidate that's too old as well. [19:51:33] So I think it is important to look about the health and the candidacy and presidency. It can take a toll on people's health. So that's another reason why support O'Rourke, he is a younger candidate. So it is important and I want to say it would decide my vote, but it is important. Brittania Fisher, supports O'Rourke, on impeachment and on Hunter Biden [19:53:56] Honestly, I feel like I hope that by the next election, he's going to be out anyways. I would rather people focus on other issues right now. On family members of VP or POTUSs stepping down on foreign boards [19:55:25] Honestly, if there is another route you could go, maybe, just so there is no conflict of interest and there's no question as to your integrity. I think that's a good idea. Then maybe you could do something else. On Sanders' health [19:56:12] No, honestly, you look at some of the candidates. You've got Elizabeth Warren, you've got Bernie, you've got Biden. You know, you've got a lot of older candidates. To me, though, I mean, if you look at Bernie now, then when he was 30, 40 years ago, his vigor really is still the same. On candidates pitted against each other in the debate [19:57:24] But I really hate to see our candidate, you know, the Democratic candidates kind of going at it because I feel like let the Republicans do that. Let them do the fighting. And I think at the end of the day, the Democrats will come together behind one candidate, whoever the nominee is, because I just think they are they're more mature in my eyes overall. ---------- LOG [FROM TRINT, NOT CLEAN]: [19:46:57] So we're here with ABC News and we're just trying to gauge people. You know why your supporters are so shocked. General? Yeah, election questions. [19:47:13] I'm. I'm a better supporter. We were a better supporter when he was running for Senate. He went to a couple of his rallies. And so when he was in town, again, we just went up and Paramount. So and so we wanted to combine and support him again. [19:47:27] I really like his message, but I haven't quite decided yet. There's a lot of people in the field but want to get the unions too involved in just supporting the political scene. Yeah. Yeah. Do you mind me asking what are some of the other candidates you're interested in? [19:47:50] Well, I like Clubber Shaw and Elizabeth Warren, but yeah. [19:47:58] So I like Biden, but trying to trying to get behind some of his Biden isms. It's tough. It's tough to do. Yeah. [19:48:09] What do you think of Biden? I mean, obviously, he's kind of trapped a little bit around this campaign scandal. Have you been following? Yeah. Do you think that it hurts his chances of being elected? [19:48:22] I think it will be minimized. I think it's a minor blip for him. I don't think it was gonna be a major thing. [19:48:29] I mean, just just the surroundings and the indications with Trump and the Russia scandals and involvement, I think is a lot deeper than what Biden had that is associated with. [19:48:46] So I just I don't think that that's going to be it isn't something that is one of the main things you're voting on. [19:48:52] Are there other things and I'm not doing specifically impeachment. You know, I'm a supporter of that. I don't like anything that I've seen over the last couple of years, so. [19:49:06] But no, not my. Not a single issue. Integration is the big issue for me. Environment is a big issue for me. So that's what I vote on. [19:49:15] What about the guy you see in the last debate? It was asked if age was something that voters should be considering. I mean, obviously, that is super young. Biden and Bernie, not so much. [19:49:27] And your concerns, you know, it doesn't concern me if they've got a good message, if they've got a clear plan. [19:49:39] I don't think age should be an issue for me. Yeah, you covered it. Yeah, well, you might need just ask me what your name is and when you spell it out for me. [19:49:52] My name is Tim O'BRIEN. My last name is Obi, aren't I? [19:49:57] Where are you from? [19:49:58] Laramie. Thanks. Thank you so much. [19:50:02] First of all, what's your name? Eddie and Arianna. And how do you spell your last name? A r e l l a. Awesome. [19:50:08] So are you and a local reporter or are you undecided? What's going on? [19:50:11] Time and or supporter? Why is that? I supported them during the Senate campaign and I just I like where you stand on a lot of the policies and rates from taxes. And I want to support a fellow Texan, too. So you're from Texas? Say I'm from take out. You're Irving to Irving, Texas. [19:50:27] So what issues stand out to you, like what's most important to you at the moment? [19:50:31] Well, I do kind of like he has a strong defense with a gun policy. I think it's a really important subject right now with our safety at schools and of our universities, high schools, middle school and all that. So I think it's an important thing to have. And also like your stance on climate as well. [19:50:47] Are you following any of the Joe Biden's son being on the Ukrainian board, things like that? There's a big story going on about him sitting on boards of foreign companies. That's something the matter. If you were coming to your polling. [19:50:59] I have kept up with him a little bit. It doesn't faze me or really interested me too much of it, if that makes any sense. But yes, I have kept up with that. But it's not something that's really intriguing here, getting my attention that much right now. [19:51:12] Another thing that people were following is Bernie Sanders had a heart attack completely his age of a candidate matter to you or or if they've had a recent health issue. That's I mean, it matters to you and not really. [19:51:22] You know, I like Sanders a lot. It's not something I would say sways my opinion too much. But it is somewhat important in that sense. I don't want a candidate that's too old as well. [19:51:33] So I think it is important to look about the health and the candidacy and presidency. It can take a toll on people's health. So that's another reason why support work is he is a younger candidate. So it is important and I want to say it would decide my vote, but it is important. [19:51:48] Work has been in favor of the impeachment of President Trump for a pretty long time. That's something that's important to you. [19:51:56] It has been at the beginning. I wasn't for it, but there was. I felt like it was in a lot of things to substantiate. [19:52:03] A lot of what? But I think with with what came now with Trump trying to get dirt on Biden during Ukraine, I think that is for me as I'll get super obvious. I think so. Yeah, I'm kind of for it now. [19:52:14] So you call yourself network supporter. Are there any other candidates that kind of particularly impress you at the moment? [19:52:21] Nobody has really it seems to be really even run really tight. Somebody somebody that's kind of low key that I do like to light is Tulsi Gabbard. But to be honest, I don't feel like she has much of a chance, even though I do like her a lot. [19:52:35] My grandma was staying with someone that really want to support us. Yeah, sure. How do you spell that? Ah I t t a n a creature or you know what? [19:52:47] REPORTER Were you undecided? [19:52:49] No. We are better supporters and we are raising our girls. And this is her second rally actually. And she's been to. So you say hi. [19:53:00] What's her name? You say, what's your name? Kim Jong. My, that's. This is HARLOW All right. So what does she matter to you? [19:53:09] Well, women's rights. First of all, obviously, I have two little ones and LGBTQ. One of my friends are in the LGBTQ community and good friends of ours and our family and friends. So it's really important to us and pretty much just gotta get Trump out there. [19:53:26] What what what about draw? Drew draws you to him. [19:53:30] I really like him. He's a great guy. [19:53:32] He seems like a good family man, good a moral man. And he seems like a really honest, forthright kind of guy, which is exactly what I would like in a politician, actually. It's rare. He's from Texas. Yes. So you can following him. Yes. [19:53:50] One big issue right now that will work. He's been talking about this before is the president. Is that something that matters to you? [19:53:56] Honestly, I feel like I hope that by the next election, he's going to be out anyways. I would rather people focus on other issues right now. But I do support him and being impeached because I think he's a detriment to this country and has been since day one. So but honestly, I'm one of those people that looks to the future and wants things to go up, not backward. So hopefully we can get him out of there in 2020. [19:54:22] Another thing in the headlines has been Joe Biden's son sitting on the board of a foreign company. Right. Is that something you're following? And is it something that matters to you? [19:54:30] You know, there is a certain amount of nepotism in politics, especially if you in any it's not even just politics, anything. If you go into any kind of field that your family was in, that they had it. My parents were into real estate. So did I. [19:54:44] I am where I am now because of what I've done. [19:54:48] But I got my foot the door because of who they knew. So I think if you've proven yourself and not just been given everything, that's a little bit of difference. I think sheer nepotism like the Trump family shows every day. I have a problem with that, obviously, because they have absolutely no contribution whatsoever. [19:55:08] So Hunter, that the son recently decided that he was going to step down from the board. You said it was just in order to avoid any kind of appearance. Yes. Of being conflicted. Do you think that family members of presidents or vice presidents should abstain from from from being involved in the. [19:55:25] Because, honestly, if there is another right, you could go maybe just as there is no conflict of interest and there's no question as to your integrity. I think that's a good idea. Then maybe you could do something else. [19:55:39] I don't believe, unfortunately, that you can trust the system necessarily for there not to be some kind of tit for tat going on behind the scenes, which I do have a problem with. But hopefully if, you know, if he does step down, that to me shows that he really does have nothing to do with any kind of corruption whatsoever. And he's obviously going to do that if his if his dad wins. So I don't have a problem with that. All right. Last one, Bernie Sanders recently had a heart attack. [19:56:09] Age. And just how about you, Bernie? Love you, man. [19:56:12] No, honestly, you look at some of the candidates. You've got Elizabeth Warren, you've got Bernie, you've got Biden. You know, you've got a lot of older candidates. [19:56:21] To me, though, I mean, if you will, Bernie, now than he was 30, 40 years ago, his is vigor really is still the same. [19:56:29] He's still saying the same thing he always did, which I applaud, which you don't find that very often in politicians either. So I think Bernie is great, too. I think he's a good man. And I think he would do really well for a country, as do obviously that. Oh, and a couple of the other candidates I like put a check in at and obviously is very strong. So I'm looking forward to see see what happens in the coming year for sure. [19:56:52] And just a quick impression of. To be there were some candidates being pitted against each other. [19:56:56] Yeah. So, you know, when you watch the Republicans go against each other, it gives you constant fodder and it really is hysterical to watch. I really don't want to see the candidates do that on the Democrat side because I feel like they are better than that. I really do feel like they're better than that. And I understand in the heat of the moment when you feel like you're out there and you are putting you know, you're putting everything on the line and putting yourself out there and to feel like maybe you're attacked by someone who is still kind of technically on your team. [19:57:24] I understand why that can ruffle some feathers sometimes. Who wouldn't? But I really hate to see our candidate, you know, the Democratic candidates kind of going at it because I feel like let the Republicans do that. Let them do the fighting. And I think at the end of the day, the Democrats will come together behind one candidate, whoever the nominee is, because I just think they are they're more mature in my eyes overall. [19:57:48] So I think I think overall that the candidates the other night were pretty calm. You know, because in the heat of the moment, things do get a little out of hand. But I don't think that was the case. I think there was a few moments. But I think at the end of the day, they all really do want the same thing and what's honestly best for our country. [19:58:07] So thank you so much. Well, you know. Oh, sure. It's for Tanya Fisher. [19:58:14] It's b r i t t a n i a blessing to Fisher f i s h e r o. [19:58:22] I'm here from North Orchard Hills, actually, Texas 2nd rally here. [19:58:29] Think, Naomi, how you spell that? And A. Oh, am I see? S as in Sam e y o u and so are you. [19:58:38] Are you serious? [19:58:39] I was a supporter when he was running for Senate. I was really disappointed with that result. But I'm here today because I am undecided. I want to hear what he has to say and I appreciate the title of this stuff. This is an anti hate rally rather than, you know, your your general. This is. Yeah. So I appreciate the sentiment behind it. I am still undecided, but I'm here to show that there are people in Texas that think differently. [19:59:13] So it sounds like you're pretty opposed to President Trump. What issues matter the most to you at the moment? [19:59:21] The issue of choice, immigration, women's rights, diversity. [19:59:30] Hate seeing you so far. [19:59:33] To be honest. No, it's still a very wide field. [19:59:39] I'm just watching and waiting to see if somebody just lights a spark in me because we worked very hard for video and we were hoping this was going to be a big move, but it hasn't so far. So I'm waiting. I'm waiting to see if somebody sparks that fever me again. [19:59:59] It's has been pretty long supporter of the impeachment of the president. It's an issue that I assume. Is that something you want to keep talking about? [20:00:09] I'd rather not say right now. [20:00:12] And last question, Bernie Sanders recently had heart attack and he's obviously one of the older candidates in the field. Is that something you consider when you're making a vote? [20:00:21] I am considered. [20:00:24] I do consider that age, but I think it would be more of an issue once we know who the final candidates are that are out there that are really outstanding. Because I think you also realistically have to look at if we do go with somebody that's an older person, whether it be Bernie or whether it be vice president, my brain just went dead. BIDEN You have to look and see who is their guy, who's their running mate, what's going to happen? If so, I think that would make a big difference down the line. [20:01:04] Once we're more secure in who's going to be where and where are you from? I'm from Dallas, originally from Ethiopia. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. [20:01:14] Enjoy the rallies like Fado and I've been given debater. Can't say when he was running for Senate term. We like his birthday. We like his the way he wants to treat everybody equal. [20:01:30] Switch sides real quick that we have. So we got to wait. Okay. You're right. So what issues matter most to you? What draws you to punishment or health care or gun control? [20:01:46] I'm not trying to say that health care and gun control. And I think it's my opinion that gun control is part of health care, where we have become a more violent country simply because there's so many guns are available and people tend to use what they have. I use the tools they have. So better want after all of the violence that we've had and the NRA is still running the Republican Party. We've become and I've always been like, I'm a protester. I've always been involved. [20:02:27] So it's my opinion that we need to get people in there that are willing to make changes even if it sits big corporation. And that's what I think better. Another thing he's very much LGBT. [20:02:42] Q To tea. Hold on one second. Bug in your hair. Me Be cute. LBJ T. Q Anyway. Oh, very much for them to have their rights. And Republicans have just tried to kill off every right LGBTQ community heads. Plus, he's and I agree with him. If churches are going to politicize something, then they should pay taxes. I fully agree. [20:03:13] We go to church. We are so careful not to politicize anything, not to talk about politics from the pulpit. If you're sitting down with two or three people, you talk about what you want to do pulpit. It should not. We talked about it. It's a political hot potato. LGBTQ, too, is a political hot potato. So they want to be politicians and they have to be willing to pay taxes on it. [20:03:45] So, yeah, so he did talk about that. I had enough for him. And he got some heat for you. Kind of want it back. At first he answered yes to saying that he would revoke the tax exempt status of these churches or religious organizations if they held the position against same sex marriage. Since then, he's clarified and he's talked about that. It's only been after we discriminate. So let's say they actively say it like somebody learning to stand on that. [20:04:11] Well, in our society today, we are a secular society. If you have a business, you either sell to everybody I can. I retired last year and I was in the business 40 and I'm not most group business for 46 years. I can remember a shipment coming in thirty five years ago. [20:04:34] And when I left Japan, it was one cost. And because there were so few parts, by the time that that boat got here, they tried to double the prices and the government said, huh? Oh, you can't do that. You have to go with what is on what is standard pricing. So we were not allowed to do things like that in business. We are supposed to be a sell. We buy. We ship. We do things. We don't tell people how to believe. Hold on. [20:05:13] I'm going to shift gears here a little bit more. Stay on the foreign countries. Recently, Joe Biden's son has gotten in some hot water for sitting on the society shut down because that's something that you think he should have done. [20:05:25] Stepping down, I think this is my deal. [20:05:28] And I hate to say this, but I think Biden's son should never have been on board if his dad was running and if he was on a board when Biden was vice president, that was a mistake. It's unfair maybe to young people of presidents, but there are certain laws and rules we need to follow. [20:05:48] And just the look of corruption can be. Now, we know the Trump children and Trump are doing everything. They are so blatant about the corruption. I mean, they're now. We're now having the G7 next year and his editors, Darrell Doyle. And so it just seems like he doesn't understand or he doesn't care or he thinks they will vote for him anyway. But I do think those are markers. That's what has happened. [20:06:17] Independents are going to get enough. What's happened, what he did to Syria and to the Kurds, what he has totally every step that we have gone forward. He has undone everything. In fact, he has changed the whole thing. And there's no way to go back. He's trying to go back and say, you know, there there's a there's a cease fire. No. [20:06:43] People have no place to go. No, no. I have no religion. Things are crashed, her car crash and this Christian. Right, people that are so Christian, why aren't they up in arms about something? [20:07:03] You guys are pretty anti President Trump. Oh, totally. I think that all has stood for for a pretty long time as the president talked about it back in 2000. Is that something you think the candidates should be talking about? [20:07:17] I think. I love him and I do. I have to go on the record for when somebody has been so corrupt. And Mulvaney recently wrote to the ABC, he said that there was political. There was no quid. And now that Trump said there's no quid pro quo. And then Mulvaney is trying to backtrack. But you can't. [20:07:41] We got one last question, which is people want to talk about Bernie Sanders heart attack and about the age of the presidential candidate. He's too old. [20:07:51] He's too old cause I'm concerned. You're 77. We're 70, 78 there. You. No, not enough. We need to take a nap and get serious. Serious. And then we go to bed every night early. And presidents don't get to sleep, period. I mean, they're only getting well, not backing away. [20:08:10] All great. [20:08:12] When he came out, George Bush, the same thing. Of course, Trump won't be because he has a patriot. OK. [20:08:20] All right. Thank you. I just need your names, Martha and Mary and my Martha Chapman. And she's Mary Cheney. You guys mind starting out your needs for us? [20:08:28] Martha, my auntie, H.A., CHP, Emma and Mary Emma are. [20:08:35] Chambers CHOGM. B R is an oh, it's just going to kill our two boys. [20:08:42] We are you guys both. Yeah, we're Irving. Irving. Yeah. OK, guys, thank you.
