Mr. Brown is charged with criminal domestic violence. At 10:48 A.M., the Aiken Country Sheriff's office received a 9-1-1 (emergency) hangup call from the Brown residence. A dispatcher re-established contact and determined a domestic dispute was in progress. Two Aiken County deputies arrived and entered the home through the front door. Deputies learned through interviews the subject pushed the victim to the floor during an argument in the bedroom. The victim is identified as Tomi Rae Brown, aged 33, of 430 Douglas Drive in Beech Island, South Carolina. The victim suffered scratches and bruises to her right arm and hip and the Aiken County Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Performance - 'This is a Man's World,' James Brown GODFATHER OF SOUL IN ASSAULT ARREST Soul singer James Brown was arrested in South Carolina on Wednesday after he allegedly pushed his wife to the floor during an argument, authorities said. The 'Godfather of Soul' was charged with criminal domestic violence . Sheriff Michael Hunt of Aiken County identified the victim as Tomi Rae Brown, the singer's wife. The 70-year-old has been booked into the Aiken County jail and was to to remain jailed until a bond hearing Thursday morning, according to Aiken County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Michael Frank. Investigators say Brown shoved his wife during an argument in a bedroom at the couple's home in Beech Island, 70 miles (112 kilometers) southwest of Columbia. 33 year old Tomi Rae Brown had scratches and bruises to her right arm and hip and was taken to a hospital, Frank said. James Brown's publicist Simone Smalls declined to comment Wednesday. Brown served a 2 1/2-year prison term after a 1988 arrest on drug and assault charges and was convicted of a drug-related offense in 1998. He was granted a pardon by the state of Carolina in May 2003, forgiving him fully in the eyes of the law, meaning he longer has to deal with the consequences of his past crimes. Brown is known as the Godfather of Soul for a multitude of hits, including "I Got You (I Feel Good)," "Sex Machine" and "Living in America." In December, the singer was honoured at Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center as "one of the most influential musicians of the past 50 years."
