The Convention is the first global treaty on public health and aims to reduce health hazards and the death toll from smoking-related diseases. It requires signatory countries to adopt effective measures to restrict "misleading" tobacco product names such as "mild," "ultra-light," and "low tar," in accordance with their national laws. The W-H-O says smoking-related diseases kill four-point-nine (m) million people each year. Each year, at least one (m) million Chinese die from smoking-related diseases. Sixty-three percent of the adult male population and four percent of the adult female population in China are smokers, with a total number of over 320 (m) million. While smoking rates are declining among senior aged citizens, they are increasing among the youth. China is the world's biggest tobacco producer, turning out one-point-six trillion cigarettes a year.
