Clip - 'Life or Something Like It' 2. SOT Angelina Jolie: "I like the essence of the story and I like what it says at the end of the day. Part of it was probably because she offends me and I just find her so horrible and she's everything that I can't stand in a person, who she is in the majority of the film. She's so lost that she's, so she's horrible to me and sad and kind of funny and it was something I'd just never done before and never tried and I didn't think I could do it and that's always a good reason to try something." 3. Clip 'Life or Something Like It' 4. SOT Stephen Herek: "It's weird, as a director sometimes you try to play matchmaker and you try to figure the whole thing out. It was just a hunch I guess. I mean Angelina of course has her whole thing, her whole persona and what we're trying to do in this movie. Ed the character - I wanted the character to be very relaxed and very affable and upon meeting Ed, he's a good looking guy but it wasn't so much about looks as just about demeanour and it turns out that Ed, in many ways, is really the character so wow!" 5. Clip 'Life or Something Like It' 6. SOT Edward Burns: "I spent about four years in two different jobs that were news oriented, so I kind of was familiar with the world so it was fun to revisit it, but I think also just the script had some really great witty scenes between Angelina's character and my character and it's fun to find a well written script, I knew that we would just have a good time with it." 7. I'll be happy when people go to see it and are OK with it, then I'll be happy when someone comes up to me on the street and says they liked it but yeah I'll be nervous because it's weird. I saw part of it and just thought 'aghh, what am I doing?' - the singing, I just saw part of that and said' Can't you just cut it? No-one wants to see that, just cut that much shorter.'" 9. Clip 'Life or Something Like It' 10. SOT Angelina Jolie: "I do live kind of that way all the time and I always have, or as far as I can remember always have so no, I might do a little bit more of everything but I do the same." 11. Clip 'Life or Something Like It' 12. SOT Edward Burns: "I think I'd probably just hang with friends and family and sort of lock in there." 13. Clip 'Life or Something Like It' JOLIE HATES NEW FILM ROLE 26 year old 'Tomb Raider' star ANGELINA JOLIE makes her comedy debut this weekend in the romantic tale of 'LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT' and although complimentary about the story, she hates the character she plays: "I like the essence of the story and I like what it says at the end of the day. Part of it was probably because she offends me and I just find her so horrible and she's everything that I can't stand in a person, who she is in the majority of the film. She's so lost that she's, so she's horrible to me and sad and kind of funny and it was something I'd just never done before and never tried and I didn't think I could do it and that's always a good reason to try something." The actress plays blonde bombshell Laine Kerrigan, a self-obsessed and superficial television presenter, complete with a lavish apartment and superstar boyfriend (Christian Kane). Laine gets a chance to hit the big time when she is offered a job on the morning show for her Seattle based television station and is paired up with the best cameraman available, Pete. The pair in fact already know each other and have rather a rocky history and the couple struggle to get on as Laine attempts to impress her bosses and further her career. The plot takes a turn when one day Laine is sent to interview a homeless man (Tony Shalhoub) who claims to have psychic abilities. He tells Laine that her life has no meaning and she will die in a week. Laine becomes obsessed with mortality and begins to dramatically re-examine her priorities and lifestyle, looking for ways to make her last week on earth meaningful. In the process she opens up to Pete, who tells her a surprising story about why he moved from New York to Seattle. Pete is played by EDWARD BURNS ('The Brother's McMullen', 'Saving Private Ryan'), who is no stranger to the world of television news and was full of praise for the witty script: "I spent about four years in two different jobs that were news oriented, so I kind of was familiar with the world so it was fun to revisit it, but I think also just the script had some really great witty scenes between Angelina's character and my character and it's fun to find a well written script I knew that we would just have a good time with it." Director Stephen Herek ('Rock Star', '101 Dalmations' 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure') was also clearly pleased with his choice for the part: "It's weird, as a director sometimes you try to play matchmaker and you try to figure the whole thing out. It was just a hunch I guess. I mean Angelina of course has her whole thing, her whole persona and what we're trying to do in this movie. Ed the character - I wanted the character to be very relaxed and very affable and upon meeting Ed, he's a good looking guy but it wasn't so much about looks as just about demeanour and it turns out that Ed, in many ways, is really the character so wow!" Jolie, an ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees who recently adopted an eight-month-old Cambodian baby named Maddox with husband Billy Bob Thornton, was overcome with nerves in taking the part and remains anxious for the public's verdict "I was very nervous, I'm still very nervous. No-one wants to see that, just cut that much shorter." And when asked what would she do if she found out that like her character, she only had a week to live, said: "I do live kind of that way all the time and I always have, or as far as I can remember always have so no, I might do a little bit more of everything but I do the same."
