For his fall/winter 2000/2001 collection Gigli produced what he described as the essence of refinement. This was a collection that drew its influences fast and easy from radically different eras. So shaggy goatskin coats and thick knit sweaters shared catwalk space with bomber jackets with tiny astrakan collars. From the Victorian era he draws on embroidered jackets made with little wood tears while the faded brocades and velvets spliced with acid greens and deep turquoises evoke an even older age. High stiff collared shirts are worn over hiphuggers in a style that evokes the swinging days of Sixties' London. Elsewhere KRIZIA was unveiling its new man for the millennium. This collection covers sportswear, knitwear and classic articles of clothing like tailored coats and jackets. The outline is long, slim and comfortable utilising soft elastic fabrics which follow the line of the body. Trousers are cigarette cut with ankle slits and matched by fitted jackets with narrowing shoulders or generous knee length coats in felted cashmere. All the knits are cashmere made with a wicklike handspun yarn in seven shades ranging from green to pine. The sportswear uses quilted, double lined materials which are thermosensitive (turn pale near heat) and hydrosoluble (swell when washed). The colours run from olive green to grey. SHOTLIST: WS INT.
