Spears whose album "Baby One More Time" has spawned three hit singles won female artist of the year, new artist of the year, female hot 100 singles artist, and top female albums artist. Currently riding high on the back of their multimillion selling album "Millennium", The Backstreet Boys were recognized for artists of the year, artist duo/group, album of the year and album artists. Latino heartthrob RICKY MARTIN picked up two awards for top male artist as well as male Hot 100 singles artist. Pop diva Mariah Carey was honored as artist of the decade. Confetti dropped from above as she walked on stage. "I feel like I'm just getting started. I'm so happy to be finally free to be who I am," she told the packed audience at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Hotel. The Century Award went to country singer Emmylou Harris, recently in the charts with "Trio 2" her second collaboration with Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton.
