A cable TV station in the States has unearthed a little gem from the half forgotten archives of black and white TV. The episode of TV show THE MANY LIVES OF DOBIE GILLIS from forty years ago features a very, very young Beatty playing a student running for high school president. This was back when Beatty was just another pretty face on the Hollywood lots and long before he made his name in movies like SHAMPOO and BONNIE AND CLYDE. But at least some things don't change. Back on Dobie Gillis, Beatty's character was outlining the reasons why he should be made high school president - he's handsome and he's rich. Fast forward to 1999 and Beatty is making noises about the possibility of running for the States' highest office. Apparently Warren is unhappy with the calibre of Democratic candidates running to replace Clinton when the next election is called. And Warren is still handsome and rich, so maybe he could just win. Beatty's last movie was BULWORTH, a savage and cynically comical look as the absurdities of the modern democratic process.
