As the white van that units had been chasing eventually pulled over, not one but fifteen people jumped out of the vehicle and ran off with police chasing close behind. It is thought the group were illegal immigrants. The white van refused to stop at a border patrol checkpoint on interstate eight in San Diego County. The van eventually made it to the I-Five, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. The driver used the shoulders of the freeway to elude police. After an hour, as holiday traffic got thicker, the van pulled off to the side of the road. Then, fifteen suspected illegal immigrants bailed out of the van. They scattered into a nearby park and mingled with the crowd. Authorities searched the park for about an hour. Several people have been taken into custody.
