THE LAKE FIRE IS SPREADING FAST AND LOCALS ARE WORRIED

SMITH SOT;
I'm really concerned that the fire might get into the backcountry into the san rafael wilderness and really start burning

JARRETT SMITH WORKS IN THE LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST DOING TRAIL WORK

SMITH SOT;
it's a bit more personal to me in terms of i sure hope the fire doesn't get back there because i don't want to see spots i love being burned

NEAR ZACA LAKE AND FOXEN CANYON THOUSANDS OF ACRES BURNED FRIDAY NIGHT AND JUST A FEW MILES AWAY IN SANTA YNEZ BRYCE WILCZAK SAYS HE COULD SEE THE SMOKE

WILCZAK SOT:
It was like a big wall of flames it was pretty scary

WILCZAK SOT:
It looks like a volcano

SMITH SOT;
It had a super cool glow i guess you could say it was kind of like a volcano

JOY CHAMBERLAIN LIVES ALONG FOXEN CANYON ROAD, AND HASN'T BEEN EVACUATED YET BUT HAS SEEN SMOKE AND FLAMES FROM HER HOUSE

CHAMBERLAIN SOT:
It was night, there would be areas that would be like little valleys and we would see it explode into fire and we could see the whole fire line at that point

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY FIRE CAPTAIN SCOTT SAFECHUCK SAYS THERE'S HIGH FIRE ACTIVITY AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY THE LOWER THE HUMIDITY PERCENTAGE, THE MORE EFFICIENT THE VEGETATION WILL BURN

SAFECHUCK SOT:
If the Inversion layer lifts it will increase the fire activity but also allow our aircraft to even get in there

THERE ARE 3 HELICOPTERS, AND 10 AIR TANKERS ASSIGNED TO THE LAKE FIRE
AND SAFECHUCK SAYS THEYRE AN IMPORTANT PART IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THIS FIRE

SAFECHUCK SOT:
That is steep terrain back up in there that's hard to get to We have hand crews that are here We have to hike those hills and put in hose lays as well as we need that aircraft to knock down that fire in front of them and with that inversion layer that does make it challenging for us but well keep moving forward
