THEY ARE PIECES OF ROCK HISTORY - A COLLECTION OF MORE THAN 120 GUITARS BELONGING TO PINK FLOYD'S DAVID GILMOUR ARE BEING AUCTIONED OFF IN NEW YORK ON THURSDAY MORNING
THE GUITARS USED TO WRITE SOME OF THE MOST CLASSIC ANTHEMS OF THE 20TH CENTURY COULD FETCH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS
CNN GOT A CLOSE-UP LOOK AT THE CHRISTIE'S EXHIBITION, AS INVESTORS AND COLLECTORS ALIKE PREPARE FOR ONE OF THE BIGGEST MUSICAL AUCTIONS IN DECADES

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--
GEMMA SUDLOW: It's the most important collection of guitars to come to the market in decades What you see in the galleries here is over 120 guitars from David Gilmours' collection

CAITLIN GRAHAM: He was obviously the lead guitarist of one of the greatest bands of all time, Pink Floyd It's gonna be interest from Pink Floyd fans, David Gilmour fans, guitar collectors, rock'n'roll fans as well as institutions and guitar makers wanting to buy things for their archives It's gonna cause a big stir among the whole rock'n'roll community

GEMMA SUDLOW: I think the two instruments that really speak to me partly because it's my favourite song are the Martin D35 and the sister 12 string, the D12-28 The two acoustic guitars that he used to write and record Wish You Were Here and in one of our galleries, you can actually hear that being played with the guitars themselves

CAITLIN GRAHAM: The highlight of the sale's really the 'Black Strat', which is David Gilmours' 1969 black Fender Stratocaster that he purchased on Manny's Music in Manhattan in 1970…It quickly became his primary recording and performance guitar and he used it for every Pink Floyd album from that point onwards until 1984

GEMMA SUDLOW: What's incredible is that each of these instruments has their own story with David Gilmour's iconic career These are instruments that have played music so it's defined the lives of several generations All the proceeds from the sale are benefiting charity which is also very exciting so there's this incredible iconic name and the philanthropic component which has created huge interest from our clients around the world
