Script LEAD: A crowd gathered outside the home of John Lombardi. The group wanted to show their support for the U-F president. Josh Fountain reports. SCRIPT: (NATS) A fellow this group says shoulf stay at the University of Florida. (SOT/BEDELL) IC: "I'd like him to..." OC: "...this institution." Around 50 supporters of John Lombardi gathered on his front lawn to rally in support... (NATS) Lombardi has been in the news..because of a racial remark he made at a party in December about the state's Chancellor Adam Herbert. A remark he's apologized for. Some say he has been asked to resign, but if it's the support he needs... (NATS) (SOT/BROWN) IC: "I'm here because..." OC: "...a better president." (SOT/CHOUINARD) IC: "I think its unfair..." OC: "...for this place." To remove Lombardi from his position would take a majority vote from the Board of Regents... A vote that one board member would not be in favor of. (SOT/DANIEL) IC: "I am one vote and I..." OC: "...keep John Lombardi." (NATS) Support from a group that says they are not alone when standing behind Lombardi...a man who's leadership at the University of Florida that hasn't gone unnoticed. TAG: The group says they plan to rally again for Lombardi next Monday night, at his home.
