BROWARD COUNTY LEGISLATORS ARE PUSHING TO REPLACE "OLE SPARKY" WITH A LETHAL INJECTION, AS A DEATH PENALTY.
Three South Florida lawmakers are pushing for the state to replace the electric chair with lethal injection. (vo) Senators Walker Skip Campbell and Ron Klien, along with Representative Tracy Stafford, are sponsoring the change in state law that would get rid of Ole' Sparky. The lawmakers say the botched execution of Pedro Medina is an example of why the state needs a more reliable methods of carrying out the death penalty. (sot-Campbell) The sponsors of the move believe switching to lethal injection will cut the appeal time for death row inmates, which is currently running nearly 10 years on average.
