A woman who allegedly drowned her twins, then stabbed herself, remains hospitalized today. Police say she was apparently depressed, and under the care of a psychiatrist.
The mother of twins has admitted she drowned the children, then tried to take her own life. Officials say the woman will be charged with two counts of first degree murder. The incident occurred in Canfield, Ohio over the weekend ... and Melanie Pantelas filed this story on Ssturday: (TAKE PACKAGE) "John Giancola made the heart wrenching discovery this morning here .. inside his family's Canfield home, off Shields Road. His twins ... three and a half year old Jonathan and Rebecca were found drowned in an upstairs bathtub. Their mother, 37-year old Annette Giancola was semi-conscious in the kitchen ... after stabbing herself in the chest. (TAKE CHANCE BITE - "He received a phone call at work. We confirmed that he came home immediately, found the wife on the floor in the kitchen, the babies in the tub upstairs and he immediately called 9-1-1 and we were notified and came out.") Authorities say Annette Giancola called her husband at his accounting office in Niles just before eleven o'clock and told him she drowned the twins then tried to kill herself. (GRANDFATHER SOUND - "Just can't talk about it ... it's too hard.") The children's grandfather and other family members were shocked to learn what happened. Authorities say Annette, a housewife, was suffering from depression. They found several bottles of prescription pills inside the house. (SOUND UP - "She's been seeing a psychiatrist. We Talked to the doctor and he's going to give us some information we need, but she was seeing a psychiatrist.") (STAND-UP - "This street, St. Angela Place, is a relatively new neighborhood. Most of the homes are no more than two years old. The Ginacola's moved into their new home a year ago, and even neighbors don't know each other well here. A tragedy like this is hard to take.") Construction worker Frank Day helped build the Giancola's home around this time last year. (DAY SOUND UP - "I knew her. She always come out and said hi to you, It bothers me.") Neighbors say once in a while, Annettte asked for help watching the twins because of back problems ... but no one expected a tragedy like this to happen. In Canfield, Melanie Pantelas. 33-Eyewitness News."
