Script | (SOT)The last time these paramedics saw this ambulance, it was sitting on a downtown Kansas City street. They caught up to it more than a hundred miles later. After state troopers and sheriff's deputies stopped it, just south of the Iowa border. With a teenage driver inside.(natsnd)The paramedics had answered an emergency call inside this building. While they were taking care of the patient-- the ambulance disappeared.(SOT)Troopers say while the 18-year-old driver sped through 4-counties, they tried everything to slow him down. Including putting out spike strips to puncture the tires. The first try got the front tires, but the driver kept going on the rims. It took another strip that blew the back tires before the ambulance ended up in the median.(SOT)(SOT)At the Mast Dispatch Center, paramedics answered calls about the theft and the pursuit. It was up to them to find help for the patient left stranded when the ambulance was taken.(SOT)That patient is in the hospital. The teenage ambulance driver is in jail. sig-out. |
