Fulton, Missouri Margaret Thatcher, Former British Prime Minister
Aerials of audience clapping, sot of Margaret Thatcher.
Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is in Fulton, Missouri today commemorating the 50th anniversary of Winston Churchill's famous Iron Curtain speech. Thatcher coined today's speech "the most important speech she's made in the United States". On March 5, 1946...Churchill spoke from Westminster College in Fulton saying, "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent." The metaphor became a symbol of East-West conflict that ordered world affairs for the next 45 years.
