Riverside County, California Sgt. Mark Lohman, Riverside County Sheriff Department
SOTS. Videotape of beating.
Two deputies were placed on administrative leave Monday pending further investigation after a videotaped incident in El Monte, California. The two deputy sheriffs were videotaped repeatedly beating alleged illegal immigrants with batons on the westbound side of the Pomana Freeway. Officers converged on the battered, rusty pickup truck as a couple of suspect attempted to flee through the passenger door. The deputies drew their batons and whacked the men several times before handcuffing them. The driver of the pickup, a suspected illegal immigrant smuggler, and several other people who were in the back of the truck, were clubbed before being taken into custody Monday afternoon. As the truck pulled over to the side of the highway and the vehicle's roof fell off, the alleged illegal aliens fled the scene and ran through a commercial nursery and into nearby neighborhoods.
