SHOTS OF BARN, SHOTS OF ARTIST AT WORK, SOTS
A HOLLYWOOD ICON MAKES AN UNUSUAL APPEARANCE IN MIDDLE AMERICA
THEY'VE BEEN STANDING LONGER THAN ANY HUMAN EVER COULD. THE YEARS HAVE BROKEN THEIR BOARDS AND STRIPPED THEIR PAINT. BUT, THESE OLD BARNS LOOK AS IF THEY WANT TO WORK AGAIN. IF SOMEONE WOULD JUST GIVE THEM A LITTLE ATTENTION. (BOICOURT SOT:"WELL, I WORKED ON THE WEEKENDS, USUALLY IN THE MORNING UNTIL IT GOT TOO HOT. MAYBE THREE OR FOUR WEEKENDS. THEN AFTER WORK, IF IT WASN'T RAINING OR TOO HOT OR TOO MANY MOSQUITOES, I'D WORK ON IT FOR ANOTHER HOUR OR SO.") YOU CAN FIND THIS OLD BARN IN CALIFORNIA JUNCTION, IOWA. ARTIST BARBRA BOICOURT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FACELIFT. (BOICOURT SOT:"WHAT I DID WAS I LAID DOWN A PRIMER THAT WAS MEANT FOR GALVANIZED STEEL. IT WAS JUST A WHITE PRIMER, SO IT GAVE ME SORT OF A WHITE CANVAS TO WORK ON. AND THEN I JUST SPRAY PAINT, LIKE A GRAFITTI ARTIST.") BOICOURT WORKS FOR AN ADVERTISING COMPANY IN OMAHA. (BOICOURT SOT:"I GOT INTERESTED IN DRAWING IN HIGH SCHOOL.") HER ADMIRATION OF THE ULTIMATE BLONDE HAS LASTED HER WHOLE LIFE. (BOICOURT SOT:"EVERYBODY KINDA' LIKES HER. AND OVER THE YEARS, I PICKED UP PICTURES AND STUFF LIKE THAT.") THE PAINTING IS QUITE A SIGHT. BOICOURT SAYS, AS FAR AS SHE CAN TELL, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PREFER THIS BLONDE. (BOICOURT SOT:"LAST SUNDAY, WE GOT MAYBE A CAR EVERY HOUR OR SO FOR TWO OR THREE HOURS OR SO.") BOICOURT SAYS SOON -- THE PAINT WILL FADE IN THE SUN. BUT, SHE PLANS TO PATCH-UP THE ROUGH SPOTS... KEEPING THIS BARN AND TRIBUTE ALIVE.
