AN INSURANCE FRAUD SCHEME HAD POLICE DIGGING FOR EVIDENCE
LEAD: IN CALIFORNIA A MAN WHO REPORTED HIS CAR WAS STOLEN AND THEN COLLECTED THE INSURANCE WAS PROVED A FAKE WHEN POLICE FOUND HIS CADDIE BURIED AT HIS BUSINESS. SCRIPT: WILLIAM DUNLAP OWNS A DUMP IN SUN VALLEY, THE AUTO THEFT UNIT PAID A VISIT, THREW A SCARE INTO A FEW EMPLOYEES SOT SOT DUNLAP WASN'T THERE, BUT POLICE WERE CONVINCED THAT HIS STOLEN CADILLAC WAS SOT ON JULY 17 1992 DUNLAP REPORTED HIS BLACK 1988 CADILLAC ALANTE STOLEN. A SHORT TIME LATER HE COLLECTED 24 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM FARMERS INSURANCE, BUT INFORMANTS TOLD POLICE THAT DUNALP HAD ACTUALLY CRUSHED AND BURIED THE CAR SOMEWHERE IN THE DUMP, BUT WHERE? POLICE USED THEIR LESS THAN STATE OF THE ART METAL DETECTOR AND A FEW HOME REMEDIES TO NO AVAIL. AND AFTER DIGGING A TRENCH 40 FEET LONG AND 8 FEET DEEP WITH DUNLAP’S OWN DOZER, BECAUSE THE DWP WOULDN’T LOAN THEM ONE, THEY GAVE UP. BUT THEY WERE BACK WITH A BETTER PLAN, SOMEONE WHO SAW THE BURIAL, POINTED THEM TO A SPOT BENEATH A PILE OF TREE TRIMMINGS FROM A FACTORY THAT MAKES STONE WASHED JEANS SOT SOT SOT NOW THEY HAVE TO FIND WILLIAM DUNLAP... SOT TAG: DUNLAP IS REPORTEDLY HIDING IN HOUSTON. BUT POLICE IN LOS ANGELES EXPECT HIM TO RETURN SOON AND WHEN HE DOES, THEY'LL ARREST HIM AND CHARGE HIM WITH INSURANCE FRAUD. IF CONVICTED, HE COULD FACE UP TO SIX YEARS IN PRISON.
