Script LEAD: Two men stole a small pickup Monday afternoon and led the California Highway Patrol on a brief but memorable chase. Reporter Tony Guinyrd gives us a bird's eye view of the pursuit. SCRIPT: (NATSND) It was a chase that began and eventually ended in Lancaster. Behind the wheel of the stolen Ford Ranger pickup, a 17-year-old boy and his 27-year-old passenger, Keith White. We got a good look at him when he thought there was no way to getaway from pursuing officers. (NATSND) It seemed for a moment that the truck would leave pursuing officers in its dust. The driver was able to make it out of the dirt and back on a paved road. But minutes later... (SOT) The driver was pinned in the truck by a C-H-P car but the passenger, Keith White of Lancaster, took off running. He scaled walls, he climbed fences, and ran through backyards. Then, he finally realized that there was nowhere to run or hide. He surrendered hear Avenue L and 30th Street West just a mile and a quarter from where the chase began. TAG: Passenger Keith White and the 17-year-old driver both face charges of grand theft auto, burglary, and felony evading. During the pursuit the stolen truck hit another vehicle, injuring a woman who is eight months pregnant. Her injuries were minor.
