Los Angeles, California Carolyn Chase, Sierra Club Spokesperson
Sot from Chase
The Sierra Club has decided to stay out of the ever-increading battles over American Immigration policy, but it wasn't an easy decision A good sized minority of the hundred year old conservation organization wanted to crack down on ilegal immigrants Their theory was that more people living here increases the damage to the environment Some called the vote to restrict immigrants racist in nature When it came to a vote, 60 percent of the club members voted to remain neutralin other words, to stay out of the debate A spokesperson says a vote in favor of the immigration crackdown would have alienated a huge segment of the population, and wouldn't really have much of an effect on American Immigration policy anyway
