TWO DRIFTERS FROM THE FORT MYERS AREA ARE ARRESTED FOR BEATING A MAN IN LARGO.
LEAD: A Clearwater man fights for his life after being beaten up by some thugs who wanted just 40 cents. It happened in the normally quiet bedroom community of Largo in Pinellas County. Glenn Selig reports. SCRIPT: A Clearwater man fights for his life. He was nearly beaten to death as he was leaving the Largo library. Police sa 20 year-old Louis Nielson and 15 year-old Marc Anthony Lopez confessed to the crime. The two young men are from Fort Myers and both are charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. Detectives say the pair approached 64 year-old Eduardo Santos as he was leaving the library and asked him for forty cents. Police say when Santos refused, the pair beat him with a sledge-hammer. Despite his age, Lopez will be charged as an adult in the case. Both he and Nielson were wanted in Fort Myers for the same type of crime. Santos remains hospitalized in critical condition.
