Script | LEAD: It appears to be another case of good intentions gone awryDeer on a farm in Northwest Arkansas are starving to death because the farmer can't properly care for them all Leslee Wright has the storyPKG: SCRIPT: Most agree, deer are majestic animals but the Litke family believes the deer near their home in Cave Springs are literally starving to death Georgia Litke and her husband live beside this deer farm She says the deer are so hungry they fight for the table scraps she throws to them SOT We bought extra lettuce, and we would strip corn and throw things to them, because they would come up to the fence like a dog begging you know and we weren't sure if they were hungry or what But we started seeing dead deer Georgia Litke began to ask for outside help when the neighborhood children started to count the dead deer along her fence line Litke's grandson counted eleven dead deer just while our crew was there The farm owner has suggested to Litke some of the animals may be sick SOT He said he thought they might be getting some kind of disease from out from out of the ground I don't know enough about it , I'm not a vet We just hate to see them dying and if they were just hungry, we just wanted to turn them loose so they could eat Litke says she enjoys the beauty of these creatures right outside her back door and hopes they can be helped before anymore die TAG: Litke has contacted the Sheriff's department but says they've been of little help But when the television crew called, they were assured the department was looking into the situation |
