PARENTS ARE UPSET AFTER A SCHOOL LETTER IS SENT HOME WITH VULGAR LANGUAGE IN IT.
LEAD: AN OUTBURTS OF PROFANITY IN THE CAFETERIA AT A JACKSONVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL -- THE SCHOOL'S PRINCIPAL WAS THE TARGET. PARENTS OF 8TH GRADERS FOUND OUT IN DETAIL A LETTER WHAT SOME KIDS YELLED OUT. PRINCIPAL TOM BOHLINGER MAKES NO APOLOGY FOR SPELLING IT OUT. BECAUSE OF THIS -- BOHLINGER IS NO LONGER IN CHARGE -- A DECISION WAS REACHED TO REASSIGN THE PRINCIPAL OF SOUTHSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL. AND DR. JERRY GUGEL IS THE NEW PRINCIPAL. BUT MANY TEACHERS DON'T WANT A NEW LEADER. A LETTER IN SUPPORT FOR DR. BOHLINGER WAS SIGNED BY 18 DIFFERENT TEACHERS SAYING THEY STAND BEHIND HIS ACTIONS -- NO MATTER WHAT. CHAD GORDON HAS MORE..... (TAKE PKG) SCRIPT SOT "I wish that the school board would reconsider or Mr. Fryer or whoever takes, whoever's in power would reconsider. I think that Dr. Boulinger was leading the school in a positive direction." TEACHERS ARE SPEAKING OUT TONIGHT (THURSDAY)... IN SUPPORT FOR THEIR FORMER PRINCIPAL, DR. TOM BOHLINGER. HE WAS RELIEVED OF HIS DUTY AFTER PARENTS COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS LETTER HE SENT HOME WITH 8TH GRADERS. A LETTER SOME SAY SHOULD SERVE AS A WAKE UP CALL TO PARENTS. SOT "Those are words that I hear daily. Daily. And I think that parents need to be made aware of the fact that these children are coming to school and they are out of control." SOT "I thought it's about time that parents realize what it's in there. They have no idea." JANE MARCHAND IS PRESIDENT OF THE SCHOOL'S P-T-A. SHE SAYS PULLING THE PRINCIPAL IS A MISTAKE. SOT "I think it's ridiculous. I think it's saying that the kids are in control. The kids have won." THESE TEACHERS SAY PARENTS WOULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT GOES ON AT SCHOOL -- ESPECIALLY DURING LUNCH HOUR. WHERE FOUR ADULTS TRY TO CONTROL 350 STUDENTS. SOT "It is anarchy. It is completely out of control in there and we have tried to gain control. We have taken away priviledges, we assigned silent lunches, we have suspended students." AND NOW SOME TEACHERS ARE WONDERING....HOW DO THEY REGAIN CONTROL. SOT "What are we going to do. Are the students in control? Are they the ones that are truly calling the shots? I mean in my mind at this point -- yes they are." ATLANTIC FEED-DATE: 00MAY05 ATLANTIC
