THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY RELEASES PATROL CAR VIDEO OF A TRAFFIC STOP INVOLVING LT. GOV. RICK PERRY LATE LAST MONTH
A SPOKESMAN FOR TEXAS LT. GOV. RICK PERRY SAYS PERRY DID NOT TRY TO TALK A DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TROOPER OUT OF GIVING HIS DRIVER A TICKET DURING A JUNE TRAFFIC STOP. AN AIDE WAS DRIVING PERRY TO AUSTIN JUNE 28TH WHEN THEY WERE PULLED OVER BY A DPS TROOPER FOR GOING 75 MILES AN HOUR IN A 55 MILE AN HOUR ZONE. A TAPE RECORDED BY THE DASHCAM IN THE TROOPER'S CAR SHOWS FIRST THE DRIVER AND THEN PERRY EXITING THEIR SUV TO TALK TO TROOPER DORI LIVINGSTON. AFTER THE TROOPER ASKS PERRY HOW HE IS DOING, PERRY IS HEARD TO REPLY THAT "IF YOU WOULD JUST LET US GO, WE'D BE BETTER." PERRY'S AIDE APOLOGIZED TO THE TROOPER FOR SPEEDING AND EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE LATE FOR A MEETING IN AUSTIN. PERRY GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AGAIN A FEW MINUTES LATER AND ASKED IF THE TROOPER WAS WRITING A TICKET. LIVINGSTON SAID SHE WAS WRITING A WARNING AND AT THAT POINT PERRY SAID "WHY DON'T YOU JUST LET US GET DOWN THE ROAD?" A PERRY SPOKESMAN SAID PERRY AND THE AIDE WERE NOT TRYING TO ESCAPE A FINE BUT SIMPLY TRYING TO GET TO THEIR MEETING. THE DPS SAYS TROOPER LIVINGSTON FOLLOWED ESTABLISHED PROCEDURE DURING THE STOP. 1700
