FIREMAN SPRAYING TANKER WITH WATER; WOMAN POINTING TO CORNER OF BACK YARD AND SOT ABOUT WALL OF FIRE; POLICEMAN SOT; WOMAN SOT; STAND-UP NEXT TO TANKER; MAN SOT WITH BASEBALL CAP; WOMAN POINTING TO AREAS OF TRUCK; WOMAN SOT.
A FEMALE TRUCK DRIVER AVOIDS A HUGE DISASTER -- AFTER A CAR DROPS A MATCH ON HER TANKER TRUCK. SHE TAKES NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS AND AVOIDED A HUGE EXPLOSION.
LEAD: TAMPA POLICE NEED SOME HELP SOLVING A DISTURBING CRIME. ONE THAT COULD HAVE TURNED DISASTROUS. SOMEONE THREW A LIGHTED CIGARETTE TOWARD A GAS TANKER AS THE DRIVER WAS UNLOADING FUEL. THE SUSPECT TOSSED IT OUT THE WINDOW OF A CAR ON THE CORNER OF BUSCH BOULEVARD AND ALBANY STREET....IN TAMPA. AMANI CHANNEL HAS MORE..... (TAKE PKG) SCRIPT: TAMPA FIREFIGHTERS DOUSED THE GAS TANKER WITH FOAM AFTER THE EXPLOSION. IT HAPPENED AT THIS SUPERTEST GAS STATION ON BUSCH BOULEVARD. RESIDENTS WHO LIVE BEHIND THE GAS STATION HEARD A LOUD BOOM FOLLOWED BY FLAMES. SOT "There was a wall of fire from here to here as high as the tree it looked like....and it just looked like the wall of hell armageddon or something." THE FIRE STARTED AS THE TANKERS' DRIVER BRIDGETT NEUMANN WAS UNLOADING FUEL. SHE NOTICED A RED SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLE DRIVING BY. TAMPA POLICE SAY THE MALE DRIVER THEN DID THE UNTHINKABLE. SOT "The driver stopped the vehicle... rolled down the window... and flipped a lighted cigarette at the feet of the driver for imperial." FUMES FROM THE TRUCK QUICKLY CAUGHT ON FIRE. SOT "I worried about the scap metal and I worried about the people. I didn't want anybody to be hurt." SOT "Bridget says she found herself in flames so intense it literally burned the soles of off her shoes but through it all she had the presence of mind to shut off the fires source by slamming shut the trucks safety valve." TODAY, THE GAS STATION WAS OPEN FOR BUSINESS AS USUAL. BUT THE GAS STATION'S OWNER IS WORRIED ABOUT THE PERSON WHO STARTED THE FIRE. SOT "He's nothing but a terrorist just like anybody putting a bomb in a building because he's going to kill somebody." THE ONLY DAMAGE TO THE GAS STATION IS A PATCH OF BURNED GRASS. BUT BRIDGETT SAYS SHE'S OUT OF BUSINESS UNTIL SHE CAN GET HER TRUCK FIXED. THE SACRIFICE OF SAVING A NEIGHBORHOOD. SOT "If that lady tanker driver had not turned off the switches and ran when she did....I don't think there would be these two homes today.
