LEAD: THE BEAUTIFUL WEATHER 'EARLIER' TODAY WAS PERFECT FOR A PARADE IN FACT, THOUSANDS TURNED OUT FOR THE ANNUAL PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE IN BRIDGEPORT JIM GREEN WAS THERE, AND NOW HE'S HERE WITH MORE TAKE PKG: SCRIPT: DAVID, IT'S THE BIGGEST CELEBRATION OF PUERTO RICAN CULTURE IN SOUTHWESTERN CONNECTICUT FOR THE EIGHTH YEAR IN A ROW, THOSE OF PUERTO RICAN HERITAGE THROUGHOUT THE STATE AND BEYOND HAVE BEEN COMING TO BRIDGEPORT TOGETHER, THEY CELEBRATE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PUERTO RICAN PEOPLE AND THE DIVERSITY OF THEIR COMMUNITY [SOT] We're Puerto Ricans and we're proud of our day, and we're very happy We're very proud of it IT'S A DAY FOR EVERYONE OF PUERTO RICAN HERITAGE TO BE PROUDAND CELEBRATE THE 8TH ANNUAL PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE OF BRIDGEPORT, AND TRANSFORMS THE CITY INTO A HUGE PARTY THERE ARE NO DULL MOMENTS AT THIS PARADE FROM SALSA DANCING AND MUSICTO ENORMOUS FLOATSTHE PARADE IS A CELEBRATION OF RICH CULTURE AND HERITAGE OF COURSE, THE BIG SYMBOL OF THE DAY IS THE PUERTO RICAN FLAG [SOT] It's just showing our spirit as Puerto Ricans, so we wave the flag FOR IRMA ORTIZ, TODAY IS ABOUT KEEPING THE PUERTO RICAN CULTURE ALIVE IN CONNECTICUT [SOT] The Puerto Rican heritage A lot of people seem to be forgetting it And, when you live here, you mis your homeland [SOT] I think today is a fun day to celebrate the Puerto Rican parade because people like it and they get to join them [SOT] In all, organizers say about 60,000 people are out here today, making this one of the largest parades in Connecticut [SOT] It's been a success every year We get the turnout bigger and better every year [SOT] It's a beautiful day and we're proud to be out here There's a lot of us out here We got to be proud of Puerto Ricans BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE PUERTO RICAN TO JOIN IN THIS PARADE [SOT] I'm Italian-(cheers)-and I still come out here THE PARADE MAD ITS WAY DOWN PARK AVENUE AND ENDED AT SEASIDE PARK FOR MORE MUSIC AND CELEBRATION IN FACT, THE FESTIVITIES ARE STILL GOING ON THIS EVENING AND, SO FAR, BRIDGEPORT POLICE ARE REPORTING NO PROBLEMS AS YOU MAY REMEMBER, THERE WERE SEVERAL SEXUAL ATTACKS AFTER LAST MONTH'S PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE IN NEW YORK CITY IF YOU'D LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT PUERTO RICAN HERITAGE, LOG ONTO OUR WEBSITE AT WWWNEWS12COM 2200
