Historical black and white film, the men continue across snow, toward solid land They cross the last crevasse One crewman lowers himself into crevasse and cuts footholds and handholds into ice The men tethered to each other on a rope, Air Force, survival training, polar survivalslowly climb up to surface They tow the precious radio over the crevasse on rope They look around and see only more frozen arctic wasteland, their destination miles away Amazing shots of the men trudging over blinding snow Profile angles, from behind, etc The men, now exhausted and near point of collapse, pull their tethered sled up to little ridge that represents the first solid land they've encountered Good angles of the men struggling onto icy rocks, dragging sled Man's frozen beard covered in ice and snow They unpack radio and immediately attach grounding wire to earth Man cranks radio and flies kite antenna into air Man talking into radio They build temporary shelter with rocks and snow, and also a trap for arctic birds Back at base camp, the men there have also devised ingenious trap for polar bear: a rifle is wired to bit of bait, so bear will be shot if it grabs it Go to 01:53:00 for rest of this footage
