Yesterday, in the briefing we we were asked about funding for the US Israel by National Industrial Research and Development Foundation. Do you have anything on the military unrest in Guatemala? Do you have any observations on the assassination of the Salvadoran judge in El Salvador this morning? Judge Jorge Alberto Serrano was assassinated outside his home. Judge Serrano was the military first instance judge. Among the cases he was handling was the Zona Rosa case of 1985 and the case of the kidnapping ring broken up in april 1986 we deplore this act of violence against a man who was valiantly doing his job in the face of pressure from both the left and the right. It is men like judge Serrano who were instrumental in El Salvador, having achieved the progress it has made in the consolidation of democracy. They are the real heroes of El Salvador, we vigorously condemn this outrage and pledge our assistance to the Government of El Salvador in uncovering the perpetrators of this act of wanton brutality. There was an attack on the US Embassy in the Yemen Arab Republic. Yesterday, there were no injuries when the third floor facade of the US Embassy in Sana'a was struck by what is believed to be a rocket propelled grenade. Damage was confined to broken windows and masonry. The attack occurred after regular duty hours on May 10, about 730 Sana time, only two people were in the building at the time of the attack, both of them us, Marine security guards, the Yemen Arab Republic government has responded quickly to our request for assistance. There have been no claims of responsibility for the attack.
