A Weirton man is in jail, two police cruisers are damaged and an officer is injured after an early morning police chase. Weirton Patrolman Scott Schrader is recovering from injuries suffered during a Thursday morning chase. According to police reports, officers responded to calls of a drunk driver smashing into parked cars and hitting a pedestrian on Pennsylvania Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they said the drunk driver, Albert Ayers, 22, of Weirton, hit both patrol cars. On dash camera video, police said Ayers can be seen swerving across Pennslyvania Avenue, driving on both sides of the road, narrowly missing parked cars. Police said Ayers Jeep smashed into several mailboxes, a parked car and a fence before landing in the lawn of a home on Owings Street.
