Moon landing. A family watches the Apollo 11 Moon landing on television, 1969. An estimated 600 million people worldwide watched the live broadcast of the event. The Apollo 11 mission was launched from Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA on July 16th 1969, and was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. The crew consisted of Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Buzz Aldrin. Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the moon on July 20th and collected lunar material for return to Earth. Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module. They returned to Earth and landed in the Pacific Ocean on July 24th.
