O-J Simpson surrendered himself to police authorities in Miami on Friday on charges stemming from an alleged road rage incident in December.
Simpson's lawyer described the incident as a misunderstanding.
O-J Simpson walked into a Miami-Dade County jail at noon Friday, then was taken to an unmarked police car and driven to the back of the sprawling jail to be processed.
A Florida motorist accuses Simpson of reaching into his car and pulling off his glasses.
Outside the police station, Simpson's lawyer Yale Galanter read a statement to the press.
He said Simpson had not been the aggressor in the road rage incident in question.

"Mr. Simpson is thankful for the professionalism shown by the Metro Dade police department and the state attorney's office in allowing him to self surrender this morning. As you are aware, Mr Simpson was involved in a road rage misunderstanding on December 4, 2000. Mr. Simpson was not the aggressor in that incident. Mr. Simpson is prepared to allow his lawyers to guide him through the legal system of Dade County. Mr. Simpson wanted me to tell you that he wishes to be an important part of this community and wishes to assimilate well into it. As a single father raising two children here in Miami-Dade County, his only goal is to be a great father and good provider to his children. He looks forward to putting this unfortunate misunderstanding behind him."

Galanter explained that Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office contacted Simpson and his attorney several days ago to negotiate his surrender.

"The state called Mr. Simpson and they gave him the option of turning himself in to the detention centre or they would issue a warrant for his arrest. It is my understanding that he consulted with his attorneys and he turned himself in today at the Turner Guilford Knight corrections facility. Currently he was charged with two charges, he was charged with burglary to an occupied conveyance which is a felony charge and also with simple battery."

Motorist Jeffrey Pattinson says Simpson, one of America's most popular football stars, scratched him when he pulled off his glasses.
Pattinson says Simpson confronted him after he honked his horn at Simpson for driving through a stop sign.
Simpson has denied wrongdoing.
A jury acquitted Simpson of the June 1994 slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.
In a subsequent civil trial, Simpson was found liable for the killings in a suit filed by their families.
He was ordered to pay 33.5 (m) million U-S dollars in damages.
Simpson moved to the Miami area early last year.
Since 1999, police have responded four times to reported disturbances between Simpson and his on-and-off girlfriend, Christie Prody.
He was not charged in any of those incidents.
