Close up Gibb laughing AMID TRIBUTES, BEREAVED GIBB BROTHERS VOW TO INVESTIGATE MAURICE'S DEATH Tributes continued to pour in from around the world on Monday for Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, who died at a Miami Beach hospital on Sunday aged 53. But his brothers say they want to know why he died after what should have been a routine operation. Fifty three year old Maurice was admitted to a Miami Beach hospital on Wednesday and on Thursday underwent emergency for a blocked intestine, shortly after suffering a heart attack. In an interview with the BBC, the Gibb brothers questioned his treatment, saying that the decision to operate so soon after a cardiac arrest was "questionable" and promised to make it their mission to find out what happened. The three brothers who made up legendary pop group came together for the last time at Maurice's bedside just hours before he died in Florida yesterday. A family statement issued immediately after his death said: "It is with great sadness and sorrow that we regretfully announce the passing of Maurice Gibb. "His love and enthusiasm and energy for life remain an inspiration to all of us. We will all deeply miss him." The brothers had been some of the best-known faces in show business for the last four decades. They started their singing careers in the 1950s, earning their name from a previous incarnation as the Brothers Gibb. Following a spell in Australia, where they gained their first recording contract, they returned to the UK in 1967 to critical acclaim. Their distinctive, close-harmony singing became their trademark and survived musical fashion and family rifts. Their hits include the soundtrack to the film of the disco phenomenon, Saturday Night Fever, in 1977 and a sequel, Stayin' Alive, in 1983. 'Saturday Night Fever' saw some of the group's most successful tracks such as 'Stayin' Alive,' 'How Deep Is Your Love' and 'Night Fever.' Their last album together was in 2001, entitled 'This Is Where I Came In.' The brothers had nine No. 1 songs, wrote dozens of hits for other artists, and sold more than 110 million records- placing them fifth in pop history behind Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney.

That's more entertaining than frightening." 14. SOUNDBITE: (English): Babacar Mboup, Voxpop: "There's nothing to be scared of, all you've got to do is take that garbage can, put it on his eyes so he can't see, get a broom or something - a bat, a bat! Bong, bong! Break her tail or something, or his legs." 15. Medium shot turtle swimming in lake 16. Medium shot people at water's edge on grass 17. Medium shot ducks and egret in lake STORYLINE: Just when Manhattan's Central Park shook its reputation as a treacherous place, a new danger is lurking. Once urban legend, now reality - an alligator is on the loose in the park. At an estimated 18 to 24 inches ( 45 to 60 centimeters) long, the reptile was seen lurking in the waters and shoreline reeds at the Harlem Meer, a small lake in the park's northeast corner. As many as 25 people reported spotting the reptile late Saturday. Among them were an off-duty police officer and his two daughters, several city employees and park management workers. Summoned to help, police sealed off an area with yellow crime-scene tape and launched a boat, with one officer carrying a noose-like device. Though they apparently caught it once, the gator vanished in the nine-foot (2.7-meter) depths and hasn't been seen since. The alligator-in-New York story dates from a time when visitors to Florida shipped baby alligators back to friends in the city, who then allegedly dumped them when they grew too large or the novelty wore off. Parks Commissioner Henry Stern dismissed any danger from Saturday's sighting, but said people should stay out of the water. He said it's not the first time the Park service has had to wrestle an alligator. Park lovers seemed unmoved by the alligator news. And the park's resident wildlife didn't seem to sense anything especially menacing as they went about their daily rounds. Park visitors said that life in New York city is full of surprises and danger, and that a missing alligator doesn't bother them too much. Others said they'll know just what to do if they see the alligator. While such stories have often been disparaged as urban mythology, so was the presence of coyotes in Central Park -- until 1999, when a 35-pound (16-kilogram) wild specimen led police on an April Fool's Day chase before it was brought down by a tranquilizer gun. Central Park is New York's largest, attracting millions of tourists every year. Alligators are usually found in Florida and Louisiana, where they live in swamps, and the Florida Keys. And at 2 feet, the Central Park alligator has a long way to go until it reaches maturity at about 6 feet or more. New York was the city which gave birth to the myth of abandoned alligators and turtles living in the sewers - which became a cartoon series and a film in the form of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
