OFFICERS ZAPPED ON TAPE DASHCAM 2004
OFFICERS TRYING TO RESCUE A WOMAN AND HER THREE SMALL CHILDREN FROM A VEHICLE CAUGHT IN A FLASH FLOOD ARE HIT BY A LIGHTNING STRIKE. OFFICERS ARE LANCE BATEMAN AND CLINT VARNELL. VARNELL TOOK A DIRECT HIT AND BATEMAN TOOK A SIDE HIT. BOTH MEN ARE OK TODAY.
COP'S REVENGE A REGRET 2004
A NEW MEXICO DEPUTY HAS PLED GUILTY TO SHOOTING AND KILLING A MAN. BILL ANDERS IS SEEN ON TAPE SHOOTING A HANDCUFFED SUSPECT AFTER HE ARRIVED AT A CRIME SCENE AND FOUND A THREE YEAR LITTLE GIRL. THE GIRL'S PREGNANT MOTHER HAD JUST BEEN SHOT AND KILLED IN THE BACKYARD OF THE HOME BY EARL FLIPPENS. ANDERS SHOT AT FLIPPENS 4 TIMES AND HIT HIM IN THE ARM AND HEAD. WAS HURT BUT STILL ALIVE. ANDERS HANDCUFFED HIM AND THEN BEGAN LOOKING FOR HIS PARTNER BOB HEDMAN. ANDERS WENT AROUND TO THE BACK OF THE HOME AND FOUND HIS MISSING PARTNER...SHOT DEAD. A FEW MOMENTS LATER, ANDERS RETURNS TO THE FRONT OF THE HOME AND TELLS THE LITTLER GIRL TO GO INSIDE. ANDERS THEN ENACTED HIS REVENGE UPON FLIPPENS BY SHOOTING HIM IN THE CHEST.
PONTIAC SUNFIRE SHOOTS AT COPS 2004
This Hobbs police officer gets a call on his radio from the State Police stating that they were in pursuit of a white vehicle and shots had been fired. The State Police vehicle has a malfunction and the police vehicle take over. Officer pursues the white Pontiac Sunfire and pursues him on a high-speed chase through a residential neighborhood. As the chase ensues several shots are fired and the officer radios in “I’ve been hit, he just pointed the gun at me again.” Several times through out the chase the suspect points his gun at the officer. The Pontiac almost hits an oncoming truck after blowing through a stop sign. Stop Sticks are deployed and a tire is flat yet he keeps going. Finally the officer shoots at the Pontiac (Vis TC on tape M 23:26:00 officer fires) it stops and 2 suspects flee. The shooter was soon found hiding in a backyard and was arrested for Attempt to Commit a Felony Against a Police Officer.
ATTEMPTED MURDER SUSPECT FLEES 2004
Hobbs PD camera picks-up Lea County Sheriff in mid-pursuit of suspect evading arrest for an outstanding warrant on an attempted murder. The green pick-up truck manages to make it around the first set of spike strips but doesn’t make past the second, causing all 4 tires to go flat. After several minutes of negotiations the suspect surrenders.
THE CONSCIENTIOUS PASSENGER 2004
Officer notices a driver he knows to have a suspended license operating a vehicle with an expired registration tag. An attempt is made to pullover the vehicle and the suspect accelerates away from officer. The chase reaches speeds over 70 miles and hour in a 30 mile an hour zone. Suspect makes a wide turn and ends up on the curb; he opens door and runs away. The officer follows in a foot pursuit. Meanwhile back at the suspect’s car the driver’s door is left hanging open and we see the passenger walk around to the driver’s side and he decides to close the door. He then looks around and realizes he is all-alone and walks away. The suspect is eventually caught by another officer and arrested.
