Released in 1951 and sold to the home market through camera stores, department stores and mail order catalogs by Castle Films, "Flying Action" presents an overview of 50 years of aviation history. At :55 are historic films of the Wright flyer followed at 1:06 by a Curtiss Pusher aircraft or Model D. At 1:15, female pilot Ruth Law is shown, who received her pilot's license in November 1912, and in 1915 gave a demonstration of aerobatics at Daytona Beach, Florida, before a large crowd. At 1;23, planes of the Lafayette Escadrille, America's flying unit in WWI are shown, as well as pilots including ace Eddie Rickenbacker. At 1:49, early bomber aircraft led by General Billy Mitchell bomb stationery warships. At 2:10, the Air Mail is shown in its earliest form. At 2:50, Lowell Bayles is seen flying the Gee Bee. The date is December 5, 1931, and Bayles was attempting to set a new speed record. At 3:00, at a speed of over 300 mph, the wing of the racing aircraft departs and the plane crashes, killing Bayles instantly. At 3:10 the Hindenburg is shown, as well as the disastrous moment when it caught fire and exploded (3:17). At 3:30 an early autogiro is shown followed by an early Sikorsky helicopter. At 3:44, an ill-fated glider followed by a bicycle powered flying machine. At 4:20, Stuka dive bombers attack Allied targets. At 4:40, paratroops jump out of aircraft. At 4:44, P-39 Airacobras and P-40 Warhawks are shown, as well as an unpainted B-17 Flying Fortress. At 5:02 a British RAF B-24 Liberator is shown taking off. At 5:09, a bomber is critically hit in the wing by bombs dropped by a plane above it. At 5:15 an Americanized V-1 Buzz Bomb, the JB-2 Loon, is shown being test launched, followed by shots of the F-80 jet in flight. Helicopters are shown on the deck of an aircraft carrier at 5:40. At 6:00, the massive B-36 Peacemaker takes off. At 6:04, America's first jet aircraft the Bell XP-59A Airacomet is seen being tested at Muroc.
