This 1964 tourism film presents highlights of Marion County, Florida. Florida is the USA's southernmost point and the only legitimate subtropical area (:38). Marion County is in the heart of Florida (:52). A few minutes from the city of Ocala is Silver Springs (1:12) and a view is given of its waters through a glass bottom boat (1:20). 35 different species of fish inhabit these waters (1:25). The main spring cavern shown is the largest in the world and holds 660 million gallons of water (1:28). Silver Springs is known as the underwater motion picture capitol of the world (1:45). A 100-acre area filled with dogwoods and azaleas is shown (1:55). Behind Carol, the film’s photographer / story teller, swims the Scenic Naval Cruiser taking a 45-minute tour down Silver River (2:02) through subtropical jungle (2:09). A colony of monkeys is viewed (2:17). At the Ross Island’s Reptile Institute, a young boy rides a large turtle’s back (2:22). An hourly demonstration of venom extraction is conducted on rattlesnakes (2:31). At the International Deer Ranch are animals from 18 different countries (2:42) and in the nursery children are at play with baby animals (2:55). The Chapels of Prince Peace Memorial (3:11) included a hand carved scene from the Life of Christ (3:14). The artist is Paul Cunningham (3:21) and he is seen at work on an oceanscape (3:21). A sign for ‘Carly American Museum History on Wheels’ follows (3:27) (3:30). The International Doll and Toy Shop is another hot spot (3:43). The foremost carvers from around the world constructed a complete circus from wood (3:55). Tourists on one of Silver Spring’s beaches (4:07). A 164-foot-high gondola ride provides tourists a skyline view of the attractions (4:25). A bank hold up is played out in the style of the roaring Old West (4:36). In a saloon, dancers perform the can-can (4:56). Native Americans perform traditional war dances (5:35). As a stagecoach takes a ride through the town (5:39), a gun fight is played out (5:51) at Six Gun Territory. An authentic wood burning express train (6:41) is also available for guests. The 400,000-acre Ocala National Forest (6:26) is a short distance from here and picnickers enjoy the waters of Juniper Springs (6:33). The area boasts campsites and nature trails (6:44). Deer and a bear (6:53). A few miles from here, hunters hold prize game (7:05). The area is also known as a world-famous fishing hot spot as it has more than 500 lakes and rivers (7:13). A large mouth black bass (7:33). The mild climate enabled water sports to be enjoyed year-round (7:42). For lodging, motels equipped with swimming pools and varying cuisines await tourists (7:58). For local young children, the area is equipped with unlimited education facilities (8:20) and for the young adults, is the Central Florida Junior college (8:28) and the University of Florida (8:30). The area was a growing metropolis full of churches and shopping centers (8:46). The two million-dollar Monroe Memorial hospital is shown (8:50) as well as the local post office and county courthouse (8:51). Citrus makes up a large part of the industry here with its 1,400 acres groves and packing plants (9:02). Cattle raising also contributes to the economy (9:11). Sleek greyhounds are bred and trained here for racing (9:26). Ocala was known as the Thoroughbred capitol of Florida and race horses take to galloping through the pasture (9:46). Off US-41, is Rainbow Springs (10:11). A view from out of one of the area’s unique submarine boats is given (10:41). On a lush jungle walk, tourists can view the highest waterfall in Florida (11:07) and swim in the waters of Rainbow Springs (11:11). Ocala Municipal Golf Course holds annual golf tournaments (11:27). The Boston Red Socks Farm club provides spring training camps (11:39). For the arts and entertainment, is the Community Concert Association (11:46) as well as the theatre (11:49). Four major highways as well as 10 state highways made this area easily accessible from other parts of the state (12:00). For other transportation methods, there was the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, the Greyhound bus line (12:18) and the newly built Ocala Silver Springs airport (12:18).
