STORYLINE
US JURY DEADLOCKED IN BRITNEY SPEARS' CASE
Britney Spears' driver's license case has been declared a mistrial.
A jury foreman announced the panel had failed to agree after four votes about whether the singer was guilty of driving without a valid driver's license, a misdemeanour in the USA.
Jurors got the case Friday morning and the stalemate was announced Tuesday. They deliberated for more than eight hours.
Spears did not have a California driver's license, but did carry one from Louisiana, where she has a home.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James A. Steele thanked the jurors for their service and ended the trial.
A prosecutor did not immediately indicate whether Spears would be retried.
The 26-year-old singer faced jail time and a fine if convicted. She did not appear in court during the trial, which began last week.
