ARLETA CALIFORNIA POLICE CHASE AND STANDOFF / KABC / HD
EXT BROLL CHOPPER AERIALS OVER POLICE CAR CHASE AND STANDOFF POLICE CHASE ENDS IN ARLETA AREA; SUSPECT DEAD IN TRUCK A police chase out of the Sylmar area has come to an end in Arleta, with the suspect dead inside a truck. It remains unclear how the suspect died. No gunshots were heard at the end of the chase, and police did not open fire. The chase began out of the Sylmar area around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday of a reported assault with a weapon suspect. A dog inside the chase suspect's car is seen on the street after the pursuit ended in Arleta on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015. KABC At one point, the motorist drove through the security gate of an apartment complex, knocking at least one bystander to the ground. The driver continued through the complex, then drove through another security gate, continuing the chase on city streets. The suspect eventually drove south on the 5 Freeway, exited shortly after, and then immediately got back on the northbound freeway before exiting again in the Arleta area. The suspect's vehicle was stopped facing westbound on Terra Bella, just south of Beachy. The suspect did not comply with officers who ordered him out of the vehicle. The truck went over a spike strip before coming to a stop. A dog seen with the suspect inside the truck was eventually captured and was taken by animal control. Pacoima Middle School, Arleta High School and Beachy and Liggett Street elementary schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution due to that standoff.

LAPD HIGHWAY CAR CHASE P1 / HD
EXT BROLL CHOPPER AERIALS OVER HIGH SPEED HIGHWAY CAR CHASE AND BARRICADE SITUATION ours on Monday came to an end when police fired tear gas into the home where the suspect, armed with an assault rifle, was holed up. The barricade situation lasted more than four hours and caused blocks of North Hollywood -- and several schools -- to be on lockdown as police flooded the area. Three officers standing on roofs next to the home fired gas into the Hartsook Street residence about 3 p.m. The suspect walked out of the house, and following police instructions, lay on the ground. Two dogs that were apparently with him also exited the home, watching as police took the man into custody. The man was suspected of making what police described as "terrorist threats" against his former girlfriend several days earlier. Police responded to the woman's home Monday in El Sereno after he was spotted sitting outside. There was an arrest warrant for the man based on the earlier threat. Police tried to arrest him, and that's when the chase began. The unnamed suspect, 40, went on a high-speed chase on the 10 Freeway and made his way to the 101 Freeway and the northbound 110 Freeway. He eventually drove onto northbound Interstate 5 near downtown with Los Angeles police and California Highway Patrol cars in pursuit.
MOUNTAIN LION KILLED (03/17/1995)
THE PEACEFUL COMMUNITY OF FILLMORE HAS BEEN INTRUDED BY A DANGEROUS PREDATOR. A 130-POUND MOUNTAIN LION ATTACKED DON BERRINGTON'S DOG, LOUIS. THE DOG OWNER CHASED THE LION AWAY WITH A GUN, AND THE ANIMAL WAS LATER TRACKED DOWN AND KILLED. RECENTLY, MOUNTAIN LION ENCOUNTERS IN CALIFORNIA NEIGHBORHOODS HAVE SKYROCKETED. SINCE LAST SUMMER, 32 SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY. A LACK OF FOOD IN THE HILLS SURROUNDING THE COMMUNITIES IS SUGGESTED AS THE REASON FOR THE UNWELCOME INTRUSIONS. AND A DEBATE CONTINUES AS TO THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE THE PREDATORS- WHETHER TO HUNT AND KILL THEM OR CAPTURE THEM FOR RERELEASE.
