CALIFORNIA HIGH SPEED CHASE AERIALS
EXT BROLL AERIAL FTG OF A HIGH SPEED CHASE THROUGH CALIFORNIA / A pickup truck driver who led officers on a high-speed pursuit from the San Fernando Valley to the Antelope Valley surrendered Monday night nearly two hours after the chase began. The chase started at 5:07 p.m. in the Northridge area, according to Officer Liliana Preciado with the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers observed a dark gray Ford F-150 traveling at a high rate of speed on the opposite side of the road at Saticoy Street and Topanga Canyon, Preciado said. During the course of the chase, the truck was involved in two crashes: one at Saticoy Street and DeSoto Avenue and another at Shoshone Avenue and Rinaldi Street. The driver then led LAPD officers down the 118 Freeway to Porter Ranch where the truck exited onto surface streets. The pursuit then continued on the northbound 14 Freeway where aerial video showed the truck was driving on the left and right shoulders. Once on the 14 Freeway, officers from the California Highway Patrol took over the chase. The truck could be seen driving erratically in and out of traffic lanes at speeds close to 100 mph until reaching Palmdale. The truck exited the freeway at Avenue N in Palmdale and drove to a gated community where a woman jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a home. The driver appeared to be headed back toward the freeway when he was involved in a head-on crash with another vehicle at the intersection of Rancho Vista Boulevard and 30th Street West following a PIT maneuver by a CHP vehicle. Two people inside the vehicle struck by the truck were able to get out of their car and ran away. "One of our officers put himself in harm's way and actually ran to that vehicle . took them out of their vehicle and assisted them to a safe location," said CHP Officer Gil Hernandez. The suspect remained barricaded inside the damaged truck for nearly 40 minutes, surrounded by CHP officers and sheriff's deputies. While inside the truck, authorities said the driver lit a pipe containing some sort of illegal substance. The driver eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. He was then taken by ambulance to the hospital. The woman who had also been in the truck was interviewed by authorities. It was not clear whether she would be arrested.

LONG BEACH HIGH SPEED CHASE AERIALS KABC P1 / HD
EXT BROLL AERIALS OF A HIGH SPEED POLICE CHASE THROUGH LONG BEACH / LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities chased a suspect through freeways and surface streets in parts of Los Angeles and Orange counties before ending in a San Diego County neighborhood early Monday morning. The pursuit originated off De Soto Avenue in Woodland Hills around 4:12 a.m. when the driver was speeding and weaving erratically, authorities said. The female suspect got onto the 101 Freeway at some point and led authorities out to Long Beach, exiting near Ocean Boulevard. For a while, the suspect drove erratically through surface streets, but traveled about 60 mph or less. At times, the driver made stops in the middle of the road before speeding off again. "(She) would get up to 100 mph so it was reckless. But then she would slow down so it was bizarre," said Officer Edgar Figueroa with the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers then followed the suspect onto the 710 and 405 Freeways, heading from Long Beach out to Orange County. The suspect continued to travel at high speeds on various freeways, eventually leading CHP officers into Oceanside in San Diego County. The driver exited the freeway onto surface streets, barely missing crashing into other cars at busy intersections. Eventually the suspect drove through a residential area in Fallbrook. Officers attempted four pit maneuvers, but the woman was able to evade each one before she was finally stopped in a cul-de-sac. Authorities got out of their cars, guns drawn, and took her out of the car. She was handcuffed and taken into custody. "She might be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and they are investigating that currently," Figueroa said. The woman's identity was not released, but authorities did say she is from Bellflower.

They dismantled our homes and we moved to another location. There are many people here and it is difficult to make a living. Various people come here to dig for gold. Sometimes they are chased by security guards of mining companies and get injured. They are chased day and night by security guards. Also during digging, gold shafts collapse and people die. I recently witnessed one collapse of a gold shaft and there was no rescue service there. Ninja miners had to drag themselves out of the hole and it was horrible." 20. Men looking in bags of dirt 21. Man sifting through dirt in his hand looking for pieces of gold 22. Pieces of gold being weighed 23. scale showing gold weighing 47 ounces. 24. SOUNDBITE: (Mongolian) Boldbaatar, Miner and Medical Doctor "It would be nice if the government of Mongolia issued licenses to explore used or abandoned gold fields to these private gold prospectors. But there is also heavy bureaucracy in the process of obtaining licenses. We wish that the government would issue licenses for us to extract the gold deposits. We can pay tax for that." 25. Miners taking a break 26. Overhead shot of many miners at work in one area 27. bulldozer going across mining area 28. mining area as sun sets STORYLINE: Thousands of jobless fortune-seekers in Mongolia, burrow under the earth day and night looking for nuggets of gold. Lured by tall tales of those who struck it rich tunnelling the grey-green hills, these miners flock to the edges of the nation's burgeoning mining industry. Armed with shovels and buckets, they wait until the mine companies close shop for the day and then start digging. The big mining firms want authorities to crack down, but the government has few staff and little money. Recently, after three to four thousand migrant miners entered the licensed area of the Russian mining company "Golden East Mongolia" the government did take action. Once chased out they move on to other spots, where their prospects are usually less bright. But with the country's economy doing so poorly, and occasional stories of people who strike it rich, they try new areas and hope their digging will pay off. They live in makeshift structures wherever they can set up camp. The tools of their trade include large, usually green pans, which they carry on their backs to the digging sites. This is one reason they call themselves "ninja miners" as they look like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons when they are dressed in their green shells. They also take the title "ninjas" because they so often work in the dark, when they are at the big mining sites. It's a precarious existence. Besides being illegal it's also dangerous. Some die, buried alive in their rudimentary pits. In winter, when ice covers the steppes, they use blowtorches to soften the frozen ground. Because they are on their own, there are no emergency services to help when accidents occur, or they fall sick. Mongolia's economy collapsed with the end of Soviet subsidies in 1990-91 and declined further when a series of devastating droughts and harsh winters decimated livestock herds. Herders who lost everything streamed to the cities looking for work, increasing the ranks of urban unemployed. Many jobless chose to try their luck in dust-covered mining towns like Zaamar. Saloons and sundry shops have sprouted to serve the miners. A 3.75-gram (.13-ounce) nugget of gold fetches US$47, but many miners can go days without finding even a glimmer. They miners have come in the tens of thousands in Mongolia's version of the America's 19th century gold rush, drawn by dreams of sudden wealth. Boldbaatar is one of many who recount the oft-told but unconfirmed tale of a miner who found a fist-sized nugget that netted US$15,000. He is worried that even if he does strike it big, his find could be taken away. "We wish that the government would issue licenses for us to extract the gold deposits. We can pay tax for that," he said. After the gold rush in California two centuries ago, the western part of the United States was resettled and other businesses sprang up as other natural resources were discovered. But Mongolia's unexplored hinterland is much less forgiving than the American West, especially in winter. There's no way to predict just how this country's gold rush will pan out for the tens of thousands mining Mongolia.

COMMENTS FROM SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE MEMBERS
1210 SEN JUDICIARY MEMBER REAX FS8 77 MEMBERS OF THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE COMMENT ON VARIOUS TOPICS Topics: Trump's threats to close the border, Puerto Rico disaster relief, health care fiasco, Biden allegations, security clearances Senators on cam: Lindsey Graham, John Kennedy, Dick Durbin, Mazie Hirono, Chuck Grassley, Cory Booker, Chris Coons 12;17;32;45 LINDSEY GRAHAM 12;17;56;40 There's no Republican bill that would ever become law in this dynamic. 12;18;39;27 The Republican Party has to have an alternative in my view to a failing system called Obamacare. We owe that to the public. 12;19;19;26 As a nation, as a party, we need to be able to tell folks that if we win next year in court, if the Trump administration wins, what are we going to do? I think we need to be thinking about a plan if the court rules in Trump's favor. We need to be thinking about an alternative that we can lay out to the public as our direction versus theirs. 12;19;56;59 It does on its face, but let me find out more about it. 12;20;29;53 Maybe, I don't know, it depends on the facts. I don't know. 12;20;33;26 The president is right about the chaos at the border...I don't mind the president upping the ante here. It's out of control ...I don't mind the president cutting off aid to get people's attention in triangle countries. What I want is a game plan. 12;21;12;25 The game plan cant be to throw 60 yard passes every time, I'd like to get a first down every now and then...if the president...basically closes ports of entry, to deal with what he calls an invasion I think rightfully so, then what do we do? How do you fix it? What does winning look like? 12;21;30;56 I talked to the president last night. We know what we need to do to change our laws, these laws are magnets. For them to be changed you need to sit down with Democrats to get buy in. What I'd like to know is what would be an acceptable outcome...it'd be nice to know what winning looks like. How does this end. What's the game plan. 12;22;04;51 I think he believes that PR has been flooded with money. That we're throwing money at PR without really much of a plan to see how its being spent... I don't mind being generous to PR but there's got to be some analysis of what generous looks like. 12;22;37;11 JOHN KENNEDY 12;22;44;05 I don't think it's a good idea and I think the president is speaking out of frustration. 12;22;55;00 I broke my nose one time playing ball. I didn't chop it off. I went to the doctor and had him reset it, and taped it up. If we close it's going to really hurt our GDP. Mexico is one of our largest trading partners, it will probably cost us billion maybe two billion in GDP a day. And it's not going to solve the problem, I don't even see where it's going to make a dent in it. 12;25;40;34 I would like to see the president call a summit immediately with the president of Mexico and the president's of the Northern Triangle countries and say 'before i cut off your aid, i want to sit down and lets talk this through. what can we do to work together to try and make the situation better?' 12;30;14;03 I don't know. My feeling about..I've said this before. Just because you're accused of something doesn't mean you're guilty of it. This is America and you do have a right to due process. On the other hand, this is no country for creepy old men. It needs to stop. 12;30;48;49 Do I consider it inappropriate to smell someone's hair and get so close that I smell their hair? Yes! I mean duh. Somebody gets close enough to smell my hair but they may get close enough to lose some teeth. It's inappropriate...this is no country for creeoy old men. 12;31;33;01 I don't know if its true. They got all kind of whistle blowers around here. All you need now to be whistleblower is a twitter account or a cell phone. I don't know what's true or not. I don't have any comment on it. 12;32;00;05 On Puerto Rico, why do you think the president is so adamant on clamping down on aid for the island? 12;32;02;34 Well, because...let me start at 30,000 feet. The aid bill was $13 billion. 9 zeroes. We don't even have five percent of that. We're borrowing all money. We borrow a million dollars a minute... 12;32;36;20 There's never enough money to go around. We've appropriated 15 billion for PR - will that be enough? Don't know yet, but they haven't spent the 15 billion. When they run out of the 15 billion, we can sit down and say well maybe they need more. In the meantime, we've got the midwest, states in the SE, California, Texas, they need money too... 12;33;10;22 When people criticize the president, the implication of what they're saying is that there's a money tree up here and all I gotta do is pluck the dollar bills. I've been all over DC, I can't find the money tree...we're like a problem gambler up here chasing his losses. We'e runing the deficits out the wazoo... 12;34;06;50 Do we want to help our friends in PR. Absolutely. But we've got to help every body. 12;35;30;55 DICK DURBIN 12;36;56;58 I don't think he quite understands that these are Americans in Puerto Rico. He thinks they're foreigners in some foreign country. They're Americans. They're entitled to a helping hand just as Americans across the board, whatever state they live in, would be entitled to. 12;37;11;25 Of course he has to respond to it and take it seriously and respectfully. I think he's done that. I think he should continue to. These are serous charges and they should be taken seriously. 12;38;14;54 This is a mindless threat by the president. Think of all of the jobs that would be in danger in the United States by closing down the border. If the president wants to see unemployment go up in this country, that's a good way to do it. Better yet, let's respond to the humanitarian crisis at the border and come up with a bipartisan solution for comprehensive immigration reform and border security. 12;39;01;41 MAZIE HIRONO 12;39;09;57 I think it goes to show that the times are changing and people's expectations of behavior are also changing and I say that's to the good. Joe Biden is not a sexual predator. The president however is, and we should recognize the differences. 12;39;22;18 I think we need to be aware that one shouldn't invade other people's space, that is a message that I think Joe Biden should take. 12;39;45;39 I think what's disqualifiying is a president who admits being a sexual predator. 12;40;00;31 CHUCK GRASSLEY 12;40;09;04 My wife was mentioned in one of those stories and we've been friends for 38 years so I wouldn't take offense to that. I think that it's up to each individual person what they do but obviously any sort of harassment is strictly wrong. 12;40;30;45 I'll let the voters make that choice (if this qualifies as harassment). Judges ought to make that choice, I'm not sure I can. 12;40;56;54 I think there is no doubt...it depends on who overturned it. If the president overturned it, I think no doubt about it he's got the constitutional authority to know who can see what in government. But beyond that, I think the question is going to be answered by Congressional oversight... 12;42;00;43 I don't know in 38 years that I've been dealing with the federal government, being an insurer of last resort, I've never found it politically involved of whether or not money ought to be paid for disaster. 12;42;44;59 In the case of Puerto Rico, what's the big deal? Anybody in PR that's going to qualify for aid under FEMA those laws have been the same for such a long period of time for probably dozens of disasters. And there's never been any question about it...so what's the problem? 12;43;20;45 Of course I am. I think the president has a very good economy and he ought to take into consideration the extent to which closing down the border would do. 12;43;39;45 But I also know that the president is commander in chief and the president has the responsiblity, the number one responsibility of the federal government to make sure the American people are protected... 12;44;34;14 MAZIE HIRONO 12;44;36;24 I think he is politicizing the issue of disaster relief. Puerto Ricans are Americans by the way, all of the people in the territories are Americans so we shouldn't be pitting one group of Americans against another group of Americans but that's exactly what the president did and does all the time. In turns of next steps of disastter relief that we should provide to all Americans who face these terrible situations is Im wiaitn for the House to pass the House bill which includes relief for midwest states... 12;45;30;34 (laughs) I think once again, it's just so, what is the word, it doesn't make sense at all. What's coming out now is what the cost of our country if he closes the border to a country that happens to be the third largest trade country, so it's pretty crazy. 12;47;29;11 CORY BOOKER 12;47;30;47 So first of all let me just say one thing real quick, it is good to see you today and I look forward to talking soon. 12;47;41;11 CHRIS COONS 12;47;45;50 No (did his actions make your daughter uncomfortable?). My children have known Joe Biden their whole lives. 12;47;55;23 The actual photo that you're referencing is of my swearing in in 2015. There was a huge bank of cameras, about 50 -- TV cameras and still photographers. And my daughter, who was 13 at the time, was handling it all very well. And Joe, who knows her, leaned forward and whispered some encouragement, telling her that she was doing great, that she looked wonderful, that he knows how hard it can be to be a teenager and have a dad who's a senator, and suggested if she wants to talk to his daughter at some point, that'd be fine. And she reacted in a somewhat awkward teenage way, you know, why are you talking to me? Because she was nervous and uncomfortable. 12;48;30;07 We've spoken this morning, we've spoken this past weekend. She views him, as do my sons, as someone who they know well, who cares about them, and who was in this context just providing encouragement and support. 12;48;43;32 What do you think about the stories that other women have told? Do you believe these women, that the vice president made them feel, at least momentarily, uncomfortable? 12;48;51;44 I'm sure. I have no reason to doubt their account of their own experiences. I do think there have been two really compelling editorials posted today by women who worked for Joe Biden for a very long period of time -- Margaret Aitken in particular, I know very well and worked for him as his press aide for years, his press secretary. And I hope folks will take a moment and listen to those accounts of who they got to know in private moments over a very long period of time in many different contexts. Joe Biden has the greatest heart, the most openness, and the most connectedness to other people of any elected official I've ever met. And it is a big part of who he is, that he hugs people and connects with people and talks to people. 12;49;33;30 Since these stories came out, have you had a chance to speak to Mr. Biden about this? Do you think that he's taken these stories to heart? 12;49;43;16 I'm sure he has. And I know that he's optimistic that he'll still make a strong and ultimately successful run for the presidency, but I do know that he takes this to heart because the entire time I've known him, he has been a strong and effective advocate for women's rights, for women's concerns, and for the fair and just treatment of women in the workplace, in our military, on college campuses. Joe has dedicated himself to this for decades. And so I know that this gives him pause, he is listening and weighing some of these stories, but I think he also knows his heart and knows what his intentions were. 12;50;16;39 Is he still thinking about jumping in... 12;50;24;07 I'm certain he is preparing to run for president. 12;52;05;45 Some have said that he should just cut out this kind of behavior. Do you think he should just cut it out, this kind of behavior, maybe because awareness of this kind of behavior has heightened in the Me Too era? 12;52;25;18 Joe Biden is someone who wears his heart on his sleeve, who has always sort of dove into crowds and engaged with people and hugged them and shook hands and touched people on the shoulder and offered encouragement. That's just who Joe Biden is. I do think he will be more conscious of the possibility that in some settings, it might make some people uncomfortable, but the reality it, part of what makes Joe Biden Joe is that life has knocked him down, and he's gotten back up, and that has given him a window into the hearts of tens of millions of Americans who also have suffered and struggled with really hard things in their lives. I would rather have somebody who is genuine, who is committed to caring for our country and our people, and is an optimist and engages with us than someone who lacks all of those qualities.
