EXT BROLL CHOPPER AERIALS OVER POLICE CAR CHASE AND STANDOFF POLICE CHASE ENDS IN ARLETA AREA; SUSPECT DEAD IN TRUCK A police chase out of the Sylmar area has come to an end in Arleta, with the suspect dead inside a truck. It remains unclear how the suspect died. No gunshots were heard at the end of the chase, and police did not open fire. The chase began out of the Sylmar area around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday of a reported assault with a weapon suspect. A dog inside the chase suspect's car is seen on the street after the pursuit ended in Arleta on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015. KABC At one point, the motorist drove through the security gate of an apartment complex, knocking at least one bystander to the ground. The driver continued through the complex, then drove through another security gate, continuing the chase on city streets. The suspect eventually drove south on the 5 Freeway, exited shortly after, and then immediately got back on the northbound freeway before exiting again in the Arleta area. The suspect's vehicle was stopped facing westbound on Terra Bella, just south of Beachy. The suspect did not comply with officers who ordered him out of the vehicle. The truck went over a spike strip before coming to a stop. A dog seen with the suspect inside the truck was eventually captured and was taken by animal control. Pacoima Middle School, Arleta High School and Beachy and Liggett Street elementary schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution due to that standoff.

SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Naji Sabri, Iraqi Foreign Minister: "The Arabs (of the Arabic nation) at this stage are watching their Iraq facing this aggression in a heroic fashion. We wish the Arab nation to stand up as one man to defend themselves. The Arabic people are taking this stance but we want the governments (of Arab countries) to take up this stance - to mark a true stance against this Zionist aggression, this three way aggression -Zionist, American and British aggression on Iraq. Maybe you saw the image of the Israeli missile that landed in Baghdad that didn't explode. Therefore this aggression is a three way aggression - Zionist, American and British, on Iraq. And if it is targeting Iraq now it is targeting all the Arab countries. The Zionist plan is clear in dividing the Arab nation into small ghettos ruled by (Israeli Prime Minister Ariel) Sharon, with the help of the gang in the White House and its poodle Blair. Reporter Question: Do you think that the Arab League Summit resolutions have been implemented? SABRI: We wish for the Arabic government to rise up to the appropriate levels to face this aggression of the Zionists and the occupiers. It doesn't target Iraq, but all the Arab nations. Reporter Question: Are there any American prisoners of war? SABRI: Today when I left Baghdad the anti aircraft guns have shot down a fighter jet in Abu Ghraib (west of Baghdad) which fell in front of us and of course it has a pilot or more. I'm not going to speak about it in front of you as it is going to be spoken about later, but I would like to assure you that all the Iraqis are fighting and defending their country. They have brought the aggression down to size, and those 1000 missiles that were fired by those wicked Zionist people on Baghdad yesterday did not affect one child or weaken the will of one child. Today the people went about their everyday business, as if nothing had happened. Those rockets that landed on Baghdad last night has not affected the will of the Iraqi people. 1000 rockets on Baghdad, but Baghdad and Iraq is stronger than all the rockets and its will is above the will of the aggressors and the will of the wicked gang of thieves which rules in Washington." 3. HIGHWAY STAND OFF (7/2/1999)
It started with a traffic dispute and ended with a marathon standoff on a freeway in Southern California. A woman led police on a pursuit through San Diego County after allegedly threatening another motorist with a gun. The chase ended in San Marcos after the woman’s car collided with a police cruiser. She was quickly surrounded. But for six hours she refused to leave her car. SWAT Team negotiators eventually persuaded her to surrender.
