Doctors in Houston spent eleven hours in their effort to reconstruct Daniel Wachira's face, after he was mauled by dogs as baby. Larry Jones says the first of several surgeries has already made a noticeable difference to the boy's nose, lips and eye. Doctors showed Jones video of their work. They say Daniel will always have some scarring, but that it would be less obvious after the procedure. "We want to make it so where that Daniel doesn't look in the mirror each day and say my face is broken," Paediatric plastic surgeon, Sean Boutros, said. The boy was abandoned at birth and left on a trash heap in Nairobi, where dogs nearly killed him before a passer-by spotted the child and took him to a hospital. He was living in an orphanage run by the Christian relief group Feed the Children, which was founded by Jones and his wife, Frances. Frances believes Daniel's future will be bright, despite his troubled life. "He has a gift, a powerful gift and as Doctor Boutros says this is a child that's probably going to make a significant contribution to the world," she said. Keyword-health-medical
