The news means a Happy New Year for the sassy New Yorker following her arrest on December 27 outside a Manhattan club, along with her current boyfriend the top rapper SEAN "PUFFY" COMBS, after gunfire resulted in a minor injury to a patron. She spent 14 reportedly tearful hours in lock-up after the incident. However, after further investigation all charges were dropped against the dance diva. Combs will have to go back to court in February but their relationship has withstood the media pressure to date. Lopez, 29, was first thrust into the spotlight when she won out in a nationwide search for an actress to play the lead role in "Selena," the biopic about the slain Tejano singer. Lopez's uncanny portrayal of the singer won her critical raves (she scored a Golden Globe Best Actress nomination) and $1 million pay day. Several films and one husband later Lopez, named one of People magazine's Fifty Most Beautiful People for 1997, turned her attention to the music business. In June 1999, she joined the Latino revolution alongside the likes of RICKY MARTIN and released the Latin pop album, "On the 6." It stormed to the top of the charts and achieved platinum status with two months. The single, and its memorable sexually-charged video, "If You Had My Love," also went to Number One and became one of the all-time hits of 1999. Coming up for the multi-talented Lopez, who has a new song called "Balia" on the sound track of the film "Music of the Heart", is a sci-fi film titled "The Cell" and a possible European tour in support of "On the 6." Daniel Craig laughing 27. Julia Roberts announcing Golden Globe winner for best picture (drama): "Argo" 28. Affleck being congratulated STORYLINE The Iran hostage thriller "Argo" was a surprise best drama winner at Sunday's Golden Globes, beating out the Civil War epic "Lincoln", which had emerged as an awards-season favourite. "Argo" also claimed the directing prize for Ben Affleck, a prize that normally bodes well for an Academy Award win - except he missed out on an Oscar nomination this year. Affleck is now in an unusual position during Hollywood's long awards season, taking home the top filmmaking trophy at the second-highest film honours, knowing he does not have a shot at an Oscar. And although "Argo" took home the top prize at the Globes, it stands as a longshot for best picture at the 24 February Oscars, where films almost never win if their directors are not nominated. "Les Miserables" was named best musical or comedy, while its stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway claimed acting prizes. Besides the three wins for "Les Miserables" and two for "Argo", the Golden Globes were a mixed bag, with awards spread around a number of films. "Lincoln" came in leading with seven nominations but lost all but one, for Daniel Day-Lewis as best actor in the title role. "Zero Dark Thirty" star Jessica Chastain won the Globe for dramatic actress as a CIA agent obsessively pursuing Osama bin Laden. Other acting prizes went to Jennifer Lawrence as best musical or comedy actress for the oddball romance "Silver Linings Playbook" and Austrian Christoph Waltz as supporting actor for the slave-revenge tale "Django Unchained". Austrian director Michael Haneke's old-age love story "Amour", a surprise best-picture nominee for the Oscars, won the Globe for foreign-language film. Pop star Adele and co-writer Paul Epworth won for best song for their theme tune to the James Bond adventure "Skyfall". B-roll Drew Barrymore REESE BEATS ROBERTS TO TOP SPOT Reese Witherspoon has been hailed the new 'Queen of Hollywood' by an influential survey compiled by the 'Entertainment Weekly' website in America (Wednesday 29th January). The accolade was given to the 26 year old star of 'Legally Blonde' and 'Cruel Intentions' who has recently shot up the A-List, eclipsing more established Hollywood names such as Oscar winners Julia Roberts and Halle Berry. Her recent film 'Sweet Home Alabama' , a romantic comedy with Reese as a fashion designer engaged to the most eligible bachelor in New York, grossed $125 million. Her salary subsequently jumped accordingly, from a reported $1 million for ''Legally Blonde'' to $15 million for its '03 sequel. She also retains indie and critical cred from her role as high school overachiever Tracy Flick in 1999's ''Election.'' For Entertainment Weekly's 2001 'If We Ran Hollywood' issue, the magazine put her on the cover with the headline ''Why We'd Hire Reese Witherspoon for Everything.'' Witherspoon takes on Washington, D.C., in ''Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde,'' opening July 2. Runner up on the list is 'Chicago' and 'Bridget Jones's' Diary leading lady Renee Zellweger, who nudged her way ahead of third-placed Nicole Kidman in terms of box office allure. The 33 year old earned an Oscar nomination last year when she played the titular tubby Brit in ''Bridget Jones's Diary'' (to top it all off she drove the film to a $71 million U.S. gross). Now, she's proving she can sing and dance as well in ''Chicago,'' where her murderous vamp has already won her a Golden Globe and may well result in another opportunity to pull in a second Oscar. Though it's been a while since she won over audiences in ''Jerry Maguire,'' Hollywood is showing Zellweger the money to the tune of a reported $10 million per picture. Nicole Kidman is still winning some votes for her versatile performance in ''Moulin Rouge'' (helping to save the movie musical from extinction) and cerebral horror hit ''The Others'' (which grossed $96 million). As a result, she earned herself a raise to the $12 million-$15 million territory and became Entertainment Weekly's 'Entertainer of the Year'. Currently, she's wowing critics and earning strong Oscar buzz for disappearing completely into the role of Virginia Woolf in ''The Hours.'' Julia Roberts came fourth in the list ahead of stars Julianne Moore, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez, and at the tender age of 20 Kirsten Dunst, Spiderman's young star, is the baby of the list. 1. Reese Witherspoon 2. Renee Zellweger 3. Nicole Kidman 4. Julia Roberts 5. Julianne Moore 6. Halle Berry 7. Kirsten Dunst 8. Jennifer Lopez 9. Cameron Diaz 10. Drew Barrymore

On Thursday, the designs of some of the biggest names in couture graced the runway at the Oscar Fashion Preview, held at the home of "Oscar," the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills. Nominees, presenters, and guests, at this year's Oscar ceremony may wear any one of the many runway creations. With awards season well into its stride, the Pre-Oscar fashion show is only the latest tune-up to the ultimate fashion show that takes place before the Academy Awards ceremony on March 25. But behind the scenes these glittery events provide a multitude of employment opportunities for specialists with taste and gumption. For example fashion guru Frederic Fekkai, who says designs on this year's red carpet will provide an eclectic mix, and fashion will share the spotlight with hairstyles in a kaleidoscope of colours. Hollywood stylist Phillip Bloch is another specialist, working with stars such as Jodie Foster, Nicholas Cage, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayak to mention a few. The styles of Versace and Valentino were absent from the Oscar fashion show preview. But Anne Klein offered a show-stopping homage to Oscar, in a matte-gold pailette wrap gown. Designer Marc Bouwer made an impact with his elegant lime-green, body-conscious halter gown. Men aren't left out either, Dolce and Gabbana provided a sleek irridescent monochromic suit for the catwalk show. Designers in general are giving men more choices. An elongated coat from Donna Karan is another alternative to the more traditional tuxedo, so often seen on Oscar night. Celebrities like Sigourney Weaver relax and really enjoy the awards season in Hollywood. Bloch thinks she is a great role model, and her style is flawless. Other role models on the red carpet runway this awards season according to Phillip Bloch include Bette Midler. For the most part, silhouettes at the fashion preview were lean and svelte, as in Richard Tyler's gleaming black fishtail gown. A platinum charmeuse halter gown by Pamela Dennis made the perfect grand entrance and exit, with its dramatic train and plunging "V" back. Jewels, courtesy of Harry Winston, provide the finishing touches to the glamorous fashions. The Academy Awards are definitely high stakes for the designers whose fashions land on the red carpet Oscar night. The Oscars can launch careers. Phillip Bloch says the red carpet at the Academy Awards is the biggest runway in the fashion world, but nothing is guaranteed until the celebrity sets foot on the red carpet Oscar night. Probably the biggest of the lot was the surprise spilt of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and that has kind of kept people captivated throughout the year actually. Because as well as the split and the divorce and who gets what, the stories then after that were obviously their new partners. You had Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz, who met on the set of Vanilla Sky, and there is clearly chemistry there as you can tell from the footage we have already seen from the film, and they became a real life couple." 6. SOT Mark Frith: "Then of course you have got the tantalizing thought that it could be Nicole Kidman and Robbie Williams who are next to get together and whether or not they have been playing with the media and grabbing the attention themselves, it has just been a fascinating story. Personally, I don't think they are a couple, they haven't seen each other enough to be a couple, but there is clearly some chemistry between Nicole and Robbie, and that comes across in the video for probably the biggest single of the Christmas and New Year period which is 'Something Stupid'." 13. We found that they were going out very quickly and then we found out that they were engaged, and then quickly they were wed, again I think there is a greater intensity in showbiz relationships, they spend more time together, probably go through more extreme stuff together, especially if they are working together like Jennifer Lopez and Chris Judd are, and if they can keep that going that is fantastic." 18. It is frustrating sometimes , it is slightly irritating, you try to make sure that you look presentable when you walk out the front door just incase someone is lurking in the bushes, all those sorts of things, but it is just part of it and I am very used to it now and I don't let it affect how I live my life, I carry on exactly as I would do if I weren't in this position. I still take Mia to a little baby music group, and we go to the swimming baths and I just do everything like normal and that is how I deal with it. (Reporter: How is motherhood?) It is fantastic, it is the best thing in the world, nothing compares to it." 32. Music clip ALL CHANGE UNDER THE MISTLETOE It's been a year of partner shuffling for some of the world's biggest stars - seemingly settled showbiz relationships have ended, while others have sprung up and blossomed despite the pressure of the ever watchful press. The biggest headline catcher was TOM CRUISE and NICOLE KIDMAN's surprise split at the beginning of the year - Cruise filed for divorce from the actress in February, after 10 years of marriage. A quickie divorce followed, citing irreconcilable differences, as the stars publicly blamed their faltering marriage on "divergent careers which constantly kept them apart." The two stars settled for an undisclosed sum, and shared custody of their two children. The rumour mill had plenty to keep it turning when Cruise began seeing his Vanilla Sky co-star PENELOPE CRUZ. The pair met making the film, but insist they did not become romantically involved until after the movie was finished - and Cruise's marriage was over. Cruise and Cruz made their first public appearance as a couple five months ago, at the LA premiere of another Cruz film, 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin' . They recently appeared at a string of promotional premieres for 'Vanilla Sky', including a launch in Kidman's home town of Sydney, Australia. Fans there gave them a warm welcome despite warnings that sympathy for Nicole might cool their reception. While their relationship goes from strength to strength, Nicole seems to be winning the post-split publicity battle. Her performances in Baz Lurhmann's musical 'Moulin Rouge' and Alejandro Amenabar's spooky thriller 'The Others' have received rave reviews and Golden Globe nominations, while critics tip an Academy Award is a likely follow-up. Her duet with Robbie Williams 'Somethin' Stupid' won the coveted Christmas number one spot in the UK charts, and sparked rumours of a 'did they-didn't they' romance between the pair in the British press. Another high profile February breakup was JENNIFER LOPEZ and rapper impresario SEAN 'P.DIDDY' COMBS. The split came after a two year romance in the spotlight and after both artists were involved in a court case concerning an incident about an illegal firearm. In March (2001), J-Lo appeared at the Academy Awards on the arm of dancer CRIS JUDD, who she had met taping the video for her single 'Love Don't Cost a Thing'. It was a whirlwind romance - the pair were married by the end of September. Meanwhile, September saw a marriage breakup for British film star KATE WINSLET, after three years with her film director husband Jim Threapleton, which seemed one of the most solid relationships in showbiz. Winslet's spokesman Robert Garlock announced "No other parties are involved in this amicable and respectful separation. Their daughter Mia will remain first priority for both of them." The couple had met on the set of 'Hideous Kinky' and married on November 22, 1998. Mia was born in October last year. The '"Titanic' actress never seemed to tire of describing their wedded bliss and how the birth of their daughter Mia had made them stronger than ever. Meeting him also helped ease the pain of the death from cancer in December 1997 of her ex-boyfriend, scriptwriter Stephen Tedre. The difference in status between the two rarely seemed to be an issue, and Winslet claimed they hardly talked about money. But Threapleton has since cited Kate's devotion to her work as the main cause of the break up. Winslet has found comfort in a new relationship though, with 'American Beauty' director SAM MENDES. The pair admitted they were involved in November (01), stressing they met after the marriage was over, tarting out as friends. Kate is reported to have told friends that she's 'madly in love' with the British director who has in the past described himself as pathologically afraid of commitment, and has been linked to a string of Hollywood stars including Cameron Diaz, Jane Horrocks, Ally McBeal's Calista Flockhart, and, most recently, Rachel Weisz, from whom he split in March. Former Baywatch star PAMELA ANDERSON has found new romance with rock star KID ROCK, a one time friend of her ex-husband TOMMY LEE. The actress was married to Lee for three years until 1998, and is now in the middle of a messy custody battle over their two children. British actress LIZ HURLEY who first hit the headlines when she appeared at the premiere of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' in an eye-popping Versace dress, will soon be seen in maternity wear - she is expecting her first baby next April. The former model says she has suffered little morning sickness and no cravings, and is looking forward to being a mother. She claims the father is American millionaire Stephen Bing, who had an on-off relationship with the actress this year. But Hurley is to bring the child up as a single mother. But it seems the 'Bedazzled' star can expect moral support from her ex-boyfriend of 13 years, 'Bridget Jones's Diary' star HUGH GRANT, who has been seen visiting her at her home.
