5. SOT Mark Frith, Editor, Heat Magazine: "The biggest stories of the year have all been relationship stories. Probably the biggest of the lot was the surprise spilt of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and that has kind of kept people captivated throughout the year actually. Because as well as the split and the divorce and who gets what, the stories then after that were obviously their new partners. You had Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz, who met on the set of Vanilla Sky, and there is clearly chemistry there as you can tell from the footage we have already seen from the film, and they became a real life couple."
6. File Tom and Nicole -
7. File Nicole Kidman -
8. SOT Nicole (on split): "As Baz says, the show must go on and so you ,move forward, everyone knows that, everyone goes through tough times and so... "

10. File Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz
11. SOT Mark Frith: "Then of course you have got the tantalizing thought that it could be Nicole Kidman and Robbie Williams who are next to get together and whether or not they have been playing with the media and grabbing the attention themselves, it has just been a fascinating story. Personally, I don't think they are a couple, they haven't seen each other enough to be a couple, but there is clearly some chemistry between Nicole and Robbie, and that comes across in the video for probably the biggest single of the Christmas and New Year period which is 'Something Stupid'."
13. Video Clip 'Something Stupid'.
14. SOT Mark Frith: "Everything happens quicker in the world of the celebrity, people get together quickly, they get engaged quicker, they get married quicker, and they break up quicker and that is just one of the rules, everything happens quicker in Hollywood."
13. File Jennifer Lopez
14. File Lopez and Puff Daddy
15. SOT Jennifer Lopez: " I am going to keep my private life private from now on. As much as I can. there are just certain things that you have to keep scared and I am going to do my best."
17. SOT Mark Frith (on J-Lo): " Another relationship that happened really quickly I guess was Jennifer Lopez and Chris Judd. We found that they were going out very quickly and then we found out that they were engaged, and then quickly they were wed, again I think there is a greater intensity in showbiz relationships, they spend more time together, probably go through more extreme stuff together, especially if they are working together like Jennifer Lopez and Chris Judd are, and if they can keep that going that is fantastic."
18. File Chris Judd
19. Video Clip Jennifer Lopez (with Chris Judd dancing) in 'Love Don't Cost a Thing'
20. File Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee
21. File Pamela Anderson
22. SOT Mark Frith (on Pamela Anderson)" I guess Pammie has always had a liking for rock stars. I mean she has gone out with quite a few of them so it is quite obvious that she clearly loves the rock and roll life, and now she has now hooked up with the most current, coolest, I guess, rock star in Kid Rock, and she has lived her life in a very rock and roll way and she...I really admire the fact that she loves the celebrity side of it. She is into the rock and roll indulgence, she is a bit over the top, she is a larger than life personality in more ways than one."
23. File Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock
24. File Liz Hurley
25. File Liz Hurley and Hugh Grant
26. SOT Mark Frith: "We would never have predicted the Steve Bing, Liz Hurley story would have been such as big drama as it was, and it has become the biggest deal, and it just seems never ending, a soap opera, but then Liz, since she first turned up at the "Four Weddings and A Funeral" premiere in that dress, her life has been a soap Opera anyway and it is impossible to tell, she has now got to face the stark reality of being a single mum and that is something that she never expected to happen certainly. "
27. File Liz Hurley
28. File Kate Winslet and Harvey Keitel at premiere of Holy Smoke
29. File Kate Winslet arrival, the Bafta's
30. File Sam Mendes, The Oscars 2000
31. Sot Kate Winslet (on media attention): " You just accept that it is the way that is is. It is frustrating sometimes , it is slightly irritating, you try to make sure that you look presentable when you walk out the front door just incase someone is lurking in the bushes, all those sorts of things, but it is just part of it and I am very used to it now and I don't let it affect how I live my life, I carry on exactly as I would do if I weren't in this position. I still take Mia to a little baby music group, and we go to the swimming baths and I just do everything like normal and that is how I deal with it. (Reporter: How is motherhood?) It is fantastic, it is the best thing in the world, nothing compares to it."

ALL CHANGE UNDER THE MISTLETOE
It's been a year of partner shuffling for some of the world's biggest stars - seemingly settled showbiz relationships have ended, while others have sprung up and blossomed despite the pressure of the ever watchful press.
The biggest headline catcher was TOM CRUISE and NICOLE KIDMAN's surprise split at the beginning of the year - Cruise filed for divorce from the actress in February, after 10 years of marriage.
A quickie divorce followed, citing irreconcilable differences, as the stars publicly blamed their faltering marriage on "divergent careers which constantly kept them apart."
The two stars settled for an undisclosed sum, and shared custody of their two children.
The rumour mill had plenty to keep it turning when Cruise began seeing his Vanilla Sky co-star PENELOPE CRUZ. The pair met making the film, but insist they did not become romantically involved until after the movie was finished - and Cruise's marriage was over.
Cruise and Cruz made their first public appearance as a couple five months ago, at the LA premiere of another Cruz film, 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin' . They recently appeared at a string of promotional premieres for 'Vanilla Sky', including a launch in Kidman's home town of Sydney, Australia. Fans there gave them a warm welcome despite warnings that sympathy for Nicole might cool their reception.
While their relationship goes from strength to strength, Nicole seems to be winning the post-split publicity battle. Her performances in Baz Lurhmann's musical 'Moulin Rouge' and Alejandro Amenabar's spooky thriller 'The Others' have received rave reviews and Golden Globe nominations, while critics tip an Academy Award is a likely follow-up.
Her duet with Robbie Williams 'Somethin' Stupid' won the coveted Christmas number one spot in the UK charts, and sparked rumours of a 'did they-didn't they' romance between the pair in the British press.
Another high profile February breakup was JENNIFER LOPEZ and rapper impresario SEAN 'P.DIDDY' COMBS. The split came after a two year romance in the spotlight and after both artists were involved in a court case concerning an incident about an illegal firearm.
In March (2001), J-Lo appeared at the Academy Awards on the arm of dancer CRIS JUDD, who she had met taping the video for her single 'Love Don't Cost a Thing'. It was a whirlwind romance - the pair were married by the end of September.
Meanwhile, September saw a marriage breakup for British film star KATE WINSLET, after three years with her film director husband Jim Threapleton, which seemed one of the most solid relationships in showbiz.
Winslet's spokesman Robert Garlock announced "No other parties are involved in this amicable and respectful separation. Their daughter Mia will remain first priority for both of them."
The couple had met on the set of 'Hideous Kinky' and married on November 22, 1998. Mia was born in October last year.
The '"Titanic' actress never seemed to tire of describing their wedded bliss and how the birth of their daughter Mia had made them stronger than ever.
Meeting him also helped ease the pain of the death from cancer in December 1997 of her ex-boyfriend, scriptwriter Stephen Tedre.
The difference in status between the two rarely seemed to be an issue, and Winslet claimed they hardly talked about money.
But Threapleton has since cited Kate's devotion to her work as the main cause of the break up.
Winslet has found comfort in a new relationship though, with 'American Beauty' director SAM MENDES.
The pair admitted they were involved in November (01), stressing they met after the marriage was over, tarting out as friends.
Kate is reported to have told friends that she's 'madly in love' with the British director who has in the past described himself as pathologically afraid of commitment, and has been linked to a string of Hollywood stars including Cameron Diaz, Jane Horrocks, Ally McBeal's Calista Flockhart, and, most recently, Rachel Weisz, from whom he split in March.
Former Baywatch star PAMELA ANDERSON has found new romance with rock star KID ROCK, a one time friend of her ex-husband TOMMY LEE. The actress was married to Lee for three years until 1998, and is now in the middle of a messy custody battle over their two children.
British actress LIZ HURLEY who first hit the headlines when she appeared at the premiere of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' in an eye-popping Versace dress, will soon be seen in maternity wear - she is expecting her first baby next April.
The former model says she has suffered little morning sickness and no cravings, and is looking forward to being a mother.
She claims the father is American millionaire Stephen Bing, who had an on-off relationship with the actress this year. But Hurley is to bring the child up as a single mother.
But it seems the 'Bedazzled' star can expect moral support from her ex-boyfriend of 13 years, 'Bridget Jones's Diary' star HUGH GRANT, who has been seen visiting her at her home.
