Ironically it looks as if Lopez will not be planning any wedding between her and Sean 'Puffy' Combs after it was reported yesterday that she has split from the rapping hip hop producer. Lopez and Combs have been together since the MTV Awards in New York in September 1999. Days after the New York Post announced they had split up for the first time, both Lopez and Puff Daddy were arrested on 27th December 1999 in connection with a shooting at a nightclub in New York. The charges against Lopez were dropped but Combs is currently undergoing a court case for firearm and bribery charges and Lopez is expected to be his key witness in the case. They'd just left a New York nightclub where three people had been shot and wounded earlier in the night. A rapper known as "SHYNE" was later arrested and charged with attempted murder. "Club NY", a Times Square nightclub, was the scene of the shooting in which three people were wounded. A short time afterwards, hiphop star Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs and his girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were stopped while trying to leave the nightclub.Police stopped their car after it sped away from the scene of the crime. They found the gun in the vehicle their were riding in. A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the gun had been reported stolen from Georgia. Combs was charged with possession of both a weapon and stolen property. Also in the car were Combs' driver and bodyguard. They were also charged with criminal possession of a gun and of stolen property. The bodyguard, ANTHONY JONES, was also charged with possession of marijuana and a controlled substance. Jennifer Lopez was later released after 10 hours of questioning without being charged and Combs was freed on bail after his arrest for possession of a stolen weapon. Both Lopez and Combs' denied having anything to do with the gun. Their lawyer said they'd merely been escaping a dangerous situation which they saw as potentially "lifethreatening". Police said the shots were fired by JAMAL BARROW, a littleknown rapper also known as Shyne who was found outside the club with a pistol. Shyne is currently behind bars, charged with three counts of attempted murder. Two of the victims were in stable condition on Monday, and the third refused medical attention. Combs was arrested in April for allegedly beating record executive STEVEN STOUTE, who suffered a broken arm and a broken jaw. Stoute said the rapper was one of three assailants. They have begun deliberating over gun possession and bribery charges against hip-hop entrepreneur Sean "Puffy" Combs. He could face as many as 15 years in prison if convicted. The jury of seven men and five women in the State Supreme Court in Manhattan began considering the charges after receiving legal instructions from Justice Charles Solomon. Combs, who presides over a $150m empire that includes his entertainment company, clothing line and restaurants, shook hands and embraced well wishers outside the courtroom. After the jury heard the case, prosecutor Matthew Bogdanos told reporters outside court that after more than 60 witnesses and seven weeks of trial he just hoped they wouldn't have to do it again. Bogdanos, in his jury summation yesterday characterized Combs as a celebrity who was trying to evade the consequences of firing a gun into the ceiling of Club New York on December 27, 1999. Combs was at the club with his former girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. Charges against her were dropped. Defense lawyer Benjamin Brafman, who said Combs was the victim of "a bum rap," said he hoped the jury would "look at all the evidence." Combs, 31, is charged with illegal gun possession and bribing a witness in the shooting that left three people wounded. Combs' protege, Jamal "Shyne" Barrow, is charged with attempted murder, assault, gun possession and reckless endangerment. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
