It comes after a chase that reached speeds over 100 miles per hour ended at I-4 and John Young Parkway.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Advertisement</p>\n<p>Deputies in Hillsborough County said they began investigating Medina on Monday, but the alleged abuse had been going on for months.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>"We received a call about a woman who had endured an unthinkable nightmare," said Amanda Granit, spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>They say that the call came in Monday from a woman who met Medina back in January.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>"At first, he seemed like an individual who she could trust," Granit said.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>She says the woman told deputies Medina had given her drugs and food.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Recommended</p>\n<p>Universal announces closure of 2 CityWalk businesses this month</p>\n<p>"That relationship quickly disintegrated when it turned violent," Granit said. "Walter Medina took her captive, held her against her will. Began physically beating her. So badly so that he caused multiple broken bones, bruises on her body. He was beating her at times with a baseball bat, at times with a screwdriver."</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Investigators say Medina threatened to kill the woman if she thought about running away. But Monday, when Medina went into a Walgreens, the woman made a run for it. She called deputies from a nearby gas station.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>"But, unfortunately, Walter Medina was not on the scene when our deputies arrived," Granit said.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Deputies got a warrant and some information about his possible whereabouts.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Then Tuesday, Medina was spotted in Polk County. Law enforcement from several agencies chased him down I-4 at speeds over 100 miles an hour, according to FHP. You can see in dashcam video his minivan nearly hits another car before FHP says he collided with a concrete median.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>FHP says Medina refused to get out of the car, and they used a K9 to secure him.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Chopper 2 was overhead as Medina was carried away and ultimately loaded onto a stretcher.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>He was in a wheelchair for his first appearance in front of a judge in Orange County Wednesday afternoon.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>"I'll set count one at $15,000. I'll stay counts two and three," the judge said Wednesday. "You also have a hold out of Hillsborough County so even if you post those bonds Hillsborough County has that hold and may come pick you up," the judge said.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The charges Medina is facing in Hillsborough County include attempted second-degree murder, armed kidnapping, and armed false imprisonment.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The sheriff's office says Medina has served prison time for a previous false imprisonment case.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p></p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Station Notes/Scripts:</p>\n<p>Dash camera video shows the end of a multi-county chase that reached speeds over 100 miles per hour before this minivan collided with a raised concrete median in Orlando.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p></p>\n<p><09:07></p>\n<p>"Fleeing and alluding, reckless driving, hit and run leaving the scene.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>After leading at least three agencies on the chase Tuesday, Walter Medina was arraigned in Orange County Wednesday. But he's facing other serious charges in another county.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p><09:24></p>\n<p>"I'll set count one at 15,000 dollars I'll stay counts two and three and you also have a hold out of Hillsborough county so even if you post those bonds Hillsborough County has that hold and may come pick you up."</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Those charges in Hillsborough County include attempted second degree murder, armed kidnapping, and armed false imprisonment.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p><02:01></p>\n<p>"His actions can only be described as horrific and what this woman endured can only be described as a nightmare."</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says they got a call from a woman Monday who said she had managed to get away from Medina after being held against her will for two and a half months.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p><04:10></p>\n<p>"She was being beat with a baseball bat, with screw drivers, having bones broken, bruises, cuts to her body. She was just really enduring terrible terrible situation at the hands of Walter Medina."</p>\n<p></p>\n<p></p>\n<p>The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says this isn't the first time Medina has been involved in a case like this one.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>They say Medina has served prison time for a previous false imprisonment case.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Deputies secured a warrant for the most recent case earlier this week, and when law enforcementspotted Medina in Polk County Tuesday, they say he took off. Medina Four Camera Pursuit - ANGLE 3
2 hurt in police pursuit; Short chase in Medina sends officer, alleged driver of stolen car to hospital. Suspect is facing felonies BYLINE: Craig Webb Beacon Journal staff writer The chase lasted all of three minutes and spanned just a few miles, but when it was over, a Medina police officer and a Warrensville Heights man were in the emergency room, and two cruisers and a stolen car were crumpled. The injuries were minor, but the short chase had its share of harrowing moments for both the participants and the unwitting motorists in the path of the fast-moving caravan. The incident unfolded shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday, when a Medina officer checked the license plate number of a 1986 Mercury Cougar and discovered that the car was reported stolen in Bedford Heights. With two other Medina police cars following close behind, Officer Ed Kinney tried to stop the car on West Liberty Street, near Branch Road. When Kinney started to walk toward the car, the driver, Charles Compton, 22, sped off, police said. That prompted a circular chase along Branch Road, Abbeyville Road and eventually back onto West Liberty Street, where officers unsuccessfully tried to block the fleeing car's path. The chase, which reached a top speed of 50 mph, eventually ended at a Stop-N-Go gas station on West Liberty when police once again attempted to block the suspect's car. This time, Compton struck one of the cruisers before spinning out in the gas station's parking lot, police said. As the cruisers surrounded the car, Compton drove into a second police car and then got stuck over a large rock, police said. With that, Medina Police Lt. Bob Starcher said, the chase ended. Compton and Sgt. George Horton were taken to Medina General Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Compton had a cut on his head and Horton injured his shoulder. Compton is in the Medina County Jail, awaiting his arraignment today in Medina Municipal Court on felony charges of receiving stolen property and failure to comply with the order of a police officer. Since it was evident that the fleeing motorist posed a threat to the officers and other motorists, Starcher said, the chase was within department guidelines. "Pursuits are one of the most dangerous things we do," he said. "The officers did a textbook job."
