Philadelphia Orchestra set to start its second transcontinental tour

Flock of Pied avocets (Recurvirostra avosetta) feeding on water. The pied avocet is is a large wader and migratory bird whose breeding habitat is in shallow, brackish waters in temperate climates. The pied avocet feeds while wading or swimming by sweeping its bill from side to side. It migrates to Africa or southern Asia in winter and feeds mainly on crustaceans and insects. A group of avocets is traditionally known as an orchestra. Filmed at Walvis Bay Lagoon, Namibia, Southern Africa.

It was a record-breaking performance last night at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Young musicians from the Pittsburgh area unofficially broke the Guiness record for the largest orchestra in the world. The magic number...2-thousand-24 musicians "blew" away the crowd at the Civic Arena with a performance of music forever. The young musicians had been working with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in preparation leading up to the record-breaking performance.
